The Strengthening the Sector funds will help Arts for LA work to permanently change the decline in creative worker jobs and arts funding since 2021, advocating for restored funding, the next generation of art leaders, and new jobs for underrepresented creative workers in LA County.

Willamette Week's article by Andrew Jankowski highlights criticisms from Portland's smaller arts organizations about the city’s new Office of Arts & Culture and its grant distribution process. Oregon Contemporary's director, Blake Shell, voiced concern about Portland’s new arts funding system, saying it unfairly cuts support for smaller organizations while increasing funds for larger ones. It is part of Los Angeles County’s formal apology for its role in slavery & post slavery injustice. The Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute and the Central District Forum for Arts & Ideas (CD Forum) recently celebrated the culmination of their Creative Empowerment Program (CEP). This innovative program paired six mentors with six mentees, providing resources, guidance, and a platform to showcase their work. Additionally, the initiative awarded $30,000 in grants to 30 Black artists and creatives. The CEP, rooted in community and artist development, offered workshops covering wellness, business fundamentals, marketing, and financial literacy. The program aimed to equip participants with essential skills for success while fostering a sense of well-being and abundance. Through mentorship, workshops, and financial support, the CEP is significantly impacting the artistic landscape in the region. #Back2Besa #WWConverge #CentralDistrict
