We welcome the announcement today by Minister for Health and Aged Care Mark Butler of Genomics Australia, a national body to provide leadership, coordination and expertise so all Australians can reap the benefits of cutting-edge genomic research and technologies. The announcement said one of Genomics Australia's first priorities will be to improve access to personalised cancer care. The Blood Cancer Research Roadmap—released earlier this week with a goal of zero preventable deaths by 2035—listed personalised medicine as one of three missions, calling for the integration of advanced genomics into models of care. Early detection of cancer leads to better clinical outcomes, but current screening programmes are limited. Researchers have used Danish health registry data to develop a statistical model that can predict an individual’s risk of developing cancer, based on their family history, disease history, and lifestyle. This work shows that health registries can be used to identify individuals who are at high risk of developing different cancer types. In the long run, such models could potentially guide cancer screening programmes to enable earlier detection. https://lnkd.in/entH4WRW #cancerresearch #cancerscreening #statistics #bioinformatics DKFZ German Cancer Research Center Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen UK Biobank Ewan Birney

Exactly why I love to be at the bridge of conventional healthcare and AI powered tech. A lot of advantages for healthcare systems to exploit and upskill the workforce for more value added activities. Congrats to the Product and AI teams and CHSC for successfully deploying this!!
M42's Capital Health Screening Centre (CHSC) has significantly advanced diagnostic capabilities, now performing up to 2,000 AI-assisted chest X-rays daily—a 10-fold increase over conventional methods. Using AIRIS-TB technology, CHSC is enhancing tuberculosis (TB) detection with a remarkable sensitivity of 99.73%, exceeding WHO’s threshold. This AI-driven solution also holds the potential to identify additional conditions such as lung cancer, pneumonia, and emphysema, streamlining the diagnostic process for more efficient interventions. #AI #Innovation #AIHealth

Researchers at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Yale School of Medicine conducted a meta-analysis to investigate the relationship between gut microbiota and immune checkpoint inhibitors https://lnkd.in/ekst2FCd They found that trans-kingdom gut microbiota, including bacteria and eukaryotes, differed significantly between ICI responders and non-responders across multiple cancer types. Specific microbial species, such as Faecalibacterium prausnitzii and Nemania serpens, were consistently enriched in responders and showed promise in predicting ICI response. These responder-enriched species were also found to modulate CD8+ T cell activity, highlighting their potential role in enhancing immunotherapy outcomes.
