Nissan Motor Corporation U.S. dealers - almost 4 in 10 are LOSING MONEY. 2024 H1 is the WORST in 15 years. Nissan Corp was essentially break-even in Q2, while Toyota Motor Corporation, Honda, Subaru reported record profitability. INFINITI Motor Company is barely a competitor to Lexus, Acura, BMW Group, Mercedes-Benz AG, AUDI AG in the U.S. SOME LOWLIGHTS/OBSERVATIONS: - January to June Return on sales 2021 - 4.6% 2022 - 5.6% 2023 - 3.2% 2024 - 1.0% - Profit fell 70% YoY in first half of 2024 - Questionable leadership and culture (far too long) - 5.8% market share is down 1.9 percentage points from 5 years ago - Too much of the wrong inventory, at the wrong time, at the wrong price - Over-dealered - NO HYBRID IN North America! Toyota 29% hybrid of 2.2M sales in U.S. - Toyota North America, American Honda Motor Company, Inc., Hyundai Motor Company (현대자동차), Kia Worldwide, Subaru of America are beating Nissan at just about everything "But I don't see any evidence that Nissan is offering any kind of money to get the dealers to close," Haig said. "I don't think they have the money to do it." Nissan dealers DESERVE BETTER from their OEM business partner, Infiniti included. This has gone on too long. Stop shuffling your floundering executives and bring in new attitudes and creativity, but it ALL STARTS AT THE TOP. https://lnkd.in/gSNwHaPf Increased incentive spending, a sharp rebound in inventory and demand for hybrids helped five of the 7 #automakers still reporting monthly sales to post solid gains in February, even as a few brands slipped. Incentive spending rose an estimated 75% on a year-over-year basis to an average of $2,565, according to J.D. Power, including a sharp boost in leasing support, with automakers and dealers seeking to grab market share as inventories continue to recover. Toyota Motor posted its best-ever monthly percentage of hybrid and electric vehicle sales in February. Hybrids and EVs accounted for more than 37% of the automaker’s 184,450 sales between its two brands. Lexus sales were up 17%, while Toyota brand sales rose 16% over last year when both were still inventory-constrained. “Hybrids are just rockin,’” David Christ, head of the Toyota division at Toyota Motor North America, told Automotive News. Christ said consumers are coming into dealerships seeking out hybrids, and because the automaker has inventory on dealer lots again, they are cross-shopping powertrains. “Now that we actually have cars on the lot — even though we don’t have a ton — customers are able to drive a gas product and a hybrid when we have both powertrains in the same car,” Christ said. He said the RAV4 “is probably the best example, where we have a gas powertrain next to a hybrid, and the hybrid is actually in higher demand and shorter supply.” Honda Motor reported a similar trend, with overall sales up 32% to 110,110, and sales of its electrified vehicles reaching a record level for February. Honda brand sales rose 38%, offsetting a 6.1% decline at Acura. February marked a full year of monthly sales gains for the Honda brand. Toyota Motor inventories have climbed 71% and Honda brand stockpiles tripled YoY heading into March. Hyundai also posted a U.S. sales record for February behind higher retail and fleet demand, rising 6% to 60,341, while its sister brand Kia fell for the third consecutive month, down 2.9% to 59,059. Subaru’s sales rose 3.1% to 47,189, its 19th consecutive month of YoY gains. Automakers and dealers continue to boost discounts as inventories recover and to help mitigate higher interest rates and new-vehicle prices. “One of the drivers of higher incentive spending is the increased availability of lease deals, and leasing is growing accordingly,” said Thomas King, president of the data and analytics division at J.D. Power. He said leasing was on pace to account for 23.2% of retail sales in February, up 4.5 percentage points from February 2023. Results from Ford Motor and Volvo are due this week. The rest of the industry reports quarterly results next month. #radio #radioadvertising
