RECONNECTING WITH CONVERSATIONS 🎙️🗣️ How much violence can any human endure without being changed by it? The simple answer is any exposure to violence will change a person’s perspective on life. Veterans, however, are unlikely to ever speak about their military service or their combat deployment in a truthful, emotionally restorative conversation. 📚 They don’t speak about their deployments when they return home, because their loved ones worried so much about them while they were away. They follow a simple rule that civilians do not need to hear about the horrors of war. Family members most frequently say that they don’t ask about the deployment, because they can see how those conversations trouble their veterans. Both perspectives are well-meaning but are misguided. #therapistsofig #therapistsofinstagram #military #veterans #militaryart #counseling #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthsupport #healingjourney #ptsdrecovery #ptsdhealing #mentalhealthart

Do you ever just want to be left alone? To not be seen or heard of for a bit? I think it is a normal part of the decompression process. Many of us were used to going a hundred miles an hour during our military careers and once we transitioned out of the service many of us just want to be left alone for a bit. The trick is to not get so comfortable being isolated from the world that we lose all connection to our community, friends, and family. And most importantly, lose ourselves in the process. Take the time you need to make a smooth transition. Decompress. Evaluate where you are and where you want to be. Make a plan. Learn to breathe and slow down (if that is what you decide to do). Then get back at it. Remember when you are ready, that there are plenty of resources and advocates ready, willing, and able to assist you in your journey to greatness. #MilitaryTransition #Military #Veterans #MilitarySpouse #MentalHealth #Resources #Information #BruceTalk

This #RemembranceDay, as we honor the service and sacrifice of our military community, please take a moment to also reflect on how you can support your military-connected employees who may be especially affected by this day. For many, Remembrance Day can be deeply emotional—a time to remember fallen friends and family, reflect on sacrifices, and support one another. If you’re an employer or manager, here are a few ways you can help support your military-connected team members this week: • Offer flexibility: Consider allowing remote work or a flexible schedule, on November 11th and the day AFTER. • Provide personal time off: Allowing time off for reflection or to attend commemorative events can mean a lot to those directly impacted by this day. • Host a moment of silence: Create space in your workplace to collectively honor the day with a moment of silence or remembrance. • Share available resources: The Family Information Line offered by CFMWS (1-800-866-4546) offers free guidance, information, and support to military families. Sharing this with your team shows your commitment to their well-being. Small actions like these can make a difference and show military families that their sacrifices and experiences are recognized. #SupportingOurTroops #MilitaryFamilies #Veterans #CFMWS #FIL

🎖️ 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬 𝗩𝗢𝗜𝗖𝗘 𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗦 🎖️ Joseph is a Marine and Army veteran—an American hero who, like too many others, faced betrayal within the very ranks he served alongside. Veteran Suicide: Why it Still Happens Veteran suicide remains a tragic reality for many. Transitioning from military to civilian life can feel overwhelming and isolating. In the military, there's camaraderie, purpose, and support—a sense of belonging. But when veterans return to civilian life, it can feel starkly different. I experienced this after retiring from the Army. Without that structured support system, many veterans feel lost and disconnected from society. The gap between military and civilian life is hard to bridge. In the military, responsibilities are clear, and values are shared. Veterans who once led missions or operated advanced equipment can find themselves in mundane civilian jobs, which can feel disheartening. This can lead to feelings of worthlessness, frustration, and disillusionment. Personal struggles compound the transition, with trauma and psychological scars lingering long after service. The deep bonds formed with fellow soldiers are hard to replicate, adding to the isolation many veterans feel. I often reach out to other veterans who, like me, feel lost in this new world. While there’s no simple solution, reaching out to a veteran can make a difference. A simple "hi" can go a long way.
