About 6 months ago now ... when our team at Ascent Consulting, Inc. began the early stages of creating our Construction Hot Takes podcast - we had one goal. We wanted to create construction focused content that offered real value - sharing ideas, insights, and strategies that would help construction business leaders & teams thrive. So now - as we're closing out 2024 ... I think one of the most rewarding parts of making our podcast has been hearing how much it's resonated so far with so many of you in the construction industry (and even beyond!) Seeing the engagement & positive feedback from you all has been inspiring, and it's motivated Gregory Gorman, MBA, Jeff Robertson and I to make the show even bigger & better in 2025! 😎 If you like our stuff so far & you want new episodes, blogs, and insights sent directly from our team to your inbox - please do me a favor and join our mailing list! ✅ You can click here to join: ➡️ ➡️ https://lnkd.in/emQByRFk Like I mentioned - we're going to have a lot more new content coming your way in 2025 ... you won't want to miss any of it! And lastly ... thank you again for being a part of this community & coming on this journey with us! P.S. - Let me know in the comments: What's one topic you'd like us to explore next year? 🤔

WHY AM I DOING THIS, AND FOR WHOM? Sometimes we assume that our purpose is clear to others, yet it may not be as obvious as we think. Simon Sinek once said, “People don’t buy what you do; they buy why you do it.” My WHY is simple: To unite construction leaders in a space that elevates your potential and amplifies your impact. Recently, I came across a podcast episode by Jayson Gaignard, where he referenced a profound reframe by Simon Bowen: “People don’t care what you do until they know they’re the reason why you’re doing it.” My REASON? Because you deserve a new standard in construction—one where leaders like you don’t just build projects but build each other. Within this community, you’ll thrive, form deep connections, and lead with purpose to create real, lasting change in our industry. As Head Curator of the Constructors Guild™, this is the standard you can expect from me and from our community. If this resonates with you, I’d like to invite you to a unique event tailored for leaders like you on Thursday, January 30th, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m in Toronto.

Most consultants are afraid to ask for help—thinking it makes us look weak. But what if the opposite were true? In the latest episode of Stop the Noise, I sat down with Tim Schuster, founder of Pop Up Think Tank, to talk about the power of asking for help. Tim’s unique approach to leadership and engagement challenges the idea that we have to have all the answers. Instead, he believes asking for help is the key to unlocking deeper relationships and more meaningful conversations. Tim shared some insights that every consultant should consider: > Asking for help builds engagement. When you involve others, they feel more invested in your success. > Build trust through active engagement. Great ideas come when your network feels ownership in the process. > Be the 'Chief Asking Officer.' Confidently ask for introductions, feedback, and even business deals. Knowing how to ask is a skill every consultant needs. > Diversify your energy. Don’t put all your focus on one deal—engage across multiple opportunities to reduce risk. Want to hear more about why you should embrace the power of asking for help? Listen to the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/gR-s-tHg It’s time to stop letting the noise of self-sufficiency hold you back. Ask for help—and watch how much further you’ll go.

Here's why construction leaders should be building a personal brand (even if you don’t like the limelight!) Like with most things in life, I’m a bit slow on the uptake. When I was interviewing guests for the Crushing It In Construction podcast last year, I kept getting the same question: “How do I keep building my personal brand?” I didn't think much of it at first. But then it clicked. In construction, businesses are built on relationships. When you share your experiences, your lessons learned, and your take on industry trends, you're showing people how you think, what drives you, and becoming more relatable to a certain group of people. Personal branding is relationship-building at scale. It’s not about showing off your breakfast or posting selfies. It’s about becoming someone in the industry that people trust. Building your personal brand helps you: ✅ Attract new opportunities ✅ Build credibility and trust ✅ Attract high quality talent My podcast guests knew this before I did. They understood that by sharing their stories on the podcast, they could grow their influence as an industry leader and with clients and candidates. In construction, there are very few ways to truly differentiate from competitors that can't be copied with a bit of time and effort. But your personal brand? No one can copy your experiences, your perspective, or your personality. That's why we are working on a new personal branding service specifically for construction industry founders, CEOs and leaders.
