The search for the Winners of The Earthshot Prize 2025 has begun. The Ocean Advocate is thrilled to have been invited to be an Official Nominator – part of a group of organisations from around the world who will submit nominations to this ambitious and exciting Prize by Dec. 11. As an Official Nominator, The Ocean Advocate is one of hundreds of organisations selected for our ability to identify the most impactful solutions across all sectors, from grassroots to businesses. The Earthshot Prize will consider solutions which make tangible progress towards one of the five Earthshots. The Ocean Advocate is looking for projects to nominate for the ‘Revive Our Oceans’ Earthshot. The projects should be beyond idea stage, have tested their solution in-field or with target audiences, and are at a ‘tipping point’ for scaling their impact within the next five years. 📖 Our 2023 annual report is out now. 🌴 Last year, our partners' efforts led to the formal recognition of more than 2 million hectares of land and forest and progress was made on tenure security and governance across nearly 22 million hectares! 📈 And in 2023, we allocated $26 million to 32 projects across 18 countries – a doubling of both the number of projects funded and the amount distributed compared to 2022. This growth is a testament to the generosity of our donors and the efficacy of our partnerships. 🌅 As we move forward in 2024, we see great opportunities ahead. It was wonderful to welcome Dr Duncan MacFadyen, Head of Research and Conservation and Rendani Nenguda, Senior Research Associate from Oppenheimer Generations Research and Conservation to the University of Exeter's College of Benefactors yesterday. 💚 In 2021 Oppenheimer Generations Research and Conservation made a transformative philanthropic gift to support the creation of the Oppenheimer Programme in African Landscape Systems (OPALS), which translates scientific tools and insight to support real-world impact across the continent. 🗺️Our OPALS Scholars are also co-producing science-based solutions to understand, mitigate, and adapt to environmental change.
