As we commemorate Juneteenth, I am reminded of our ongoing efforts to foster diversity and inclusion in healthcare. Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in the U.S. and symbolizes freedom and equality. Recently, Davin Healthcare hosted a discussion panel on increasing minority representation in healthcare. The event highlighted the vital contributions of minority professionals and addressed systemic barriers. Juneteenth reminds us of the progress made and the work ahead. Our discussion underscored the significance of creating an inclusive environment where every individual, regardless of their background, can thrive and contribute to the betterment of healthcare. Together, we can make a meaningful impact and pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable healthcare system. #Juneteenth #DiversityandInclusion #HealthcareEquality #DavinHealthcare

Have you ever wondered what research would be like if the studies were designed by the people typically being researched? Too often, research to understand and solve healthcare inequities leaves out the people directly experiencing these issues. Design Impact has been supporting the RWJF Community Research for Health Equity program, a grant program managed by AcademyHealth, to advance community-led research. Watch this video to see how grantees are transforming their local healthcare systems. #healthequity #communityledresearch #communityresearch

There is concerning evidence that people from under-represented groups are losing trust in healthcare systems and providers, and this is affecting their health outcomes. To combat this, Sanofi launched its A Million Conversations initiative in 2023 to empower people from under-represented communities to engage in a direct dialogue with health system leaders, including the healthcare industry, and to grow a pipeline of diverse healthcare leaders. The Health Policy Partnership is proud to have convened the initiative’s Advisory Group while also lending secretariat support. The Advisory Group comprises ten inspirational leaders from around the world – people working in healthcare, academia, advocacy, and research – who are committed to helping make healthcare more accessible and equitable for all. Recent research has shown that people from under-represented groups have had their trust in healthcare eroded. In many countries, women, people from ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and the LGBTQ+ community report higher levels of negative experiences. It is our hope that our contribution to A Million Conversations, alongside the expertise of its Advisory Group, can shift the needle to ensure trust is restored in healthcare to improve people's experiences and outcomes globally. Everyone should have care that meets their needs. But research into trans and non-binary people’s care experiences, while limited, shows they often face challenges when navigating both gender-affirming and other care. Healthwatch England has launched a survey to better understand these challenges and how to tackle them: https://lnkd.in/erUg3x3J If you identify as trans or non-binary, your voice matters! Share your experiences of GP care, good or bad, to support Healthwatch England in calling for more inclusive care.

Let's talk #HealthEquity. This is particularly relevant during Pride month as we recognize and lift up the contributions of Black, trans women to the progress made. Marginalized groups have a harder time accessing affordable healthcare and being believed/supported by healthcare providers. What organizations within health equity can we help highlight today? #PrideIsAProtest

This December, as we observe National Human Rights Month, let’s reflect on the fundamental right of every individual to access equitable healthcare. At Saint Louis University, inspired by our Jesuit mission, we are called to uphold the inherent dignity of every person and work tirelessly to address disparities that prevent access to quality healthcare. This week's DEI Tip of the Week focuses on Equitable Care: Equitable care reflects cura personalis—care for the whole person—and embraces the belief that every individual deserves compassion, respect, and the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background, race, ethnicity, gender identity, or socioeconomic status. Guided by the Jesuit values of social justice and service to others, we strive to listen deeply to patients’ unique needs, dismantle barriers to care, and promote health equity in underserved communities. This mission aligns with the universal human right to health and challenges us to be agents of change. Let us work together to create a future where healthcare equity isn’t just a goal but a reality for everyone. #UniversalHumanRightsMonth #EquitableCare #JesuitMission #CuraPersonalis #HealthEquity

#WHWWeek Groundbreaking Fair share for health and care report presents the data on gender and undervaluation of health and care. ➕ 2 out of 3 workers in the health and care sector across the world are women ➕ 76% of unpaid care work is performed by women ➕ During COVID-19 women health and care responsibilities including unpaid care almost doubled Underinvesting in health systems and the health and care workforce hinders progress towards gender equality. Gender inequality in health and care work is negatively associated with health system performance and population health outcomes. A fair share for health and care can strengthen health systems and lead to better health outcomes, it can also drive gender equality and women’s economic empowerment. It's time for a fair share for health and care. Here are 6 policy levers ⏬ https://lnkd.in/dVcWy2Cn

Too often, research seeking to understand and develop solutions to pressing health care challenges lacks involvement by the very individuals and communities most affected by these issues. Integrating community voices into the research continuum is essential for addressing inequities and ensuring their experiences and needs are prioritized when implementing impactful health practices or policies. The Community Research for Health Equity (CRHE) program seeks to elevate community voices and make the priorities of communities the primary goal of local health system transformation efforts. Watch our latest video to hear from CRHE grantees as they reflect on the value of community-led research and how their work will inform changes in the health care system: https://lnkd.in/gxvTJ4bF
