I’m on my way to Birmingham to deliver a closing keynote at a conference tomorrow and I am LOVING the new flight time from Inverness to Luton. A civilised 0915 departure gets me to where I need to be in plenty of time to meet the team I am working with, make sure I have everything I need, and have a recce of the room I will be working in. There is a lot of behind-the-scenes preparation that goes in to delivering a keynote to a live audience - it’s not just standing on stage and talking for 45 minutes There are always travel plans to arrange (no one lives at work unless it’s virtual!), contracts and other paperwork to send out and get signed, preliminary meetings to understand the client and what they are looking for you to deliver And then there’s the speech itself. You have to craft it and weave stories in and out of the points you are getting across, and if using slides, you need to make the slide deck, save it onto a stick and make sure you have the stick with you (although increasingly I think we will need to email slide decks through to event hosts to protect the integrity of their technology systems) There are two points here. A 45 minute keynote takes a lot more than 45 minutes of work to prepare for Being prepared for the week ahead means knowing what’s coming, planning for it and making sure those around you - especially your employees if you have them - know what is expected of them. I’m pretty flexible when it comes to travel plans because I have spent so long in the air, but I like to know what each week and each day is going to look like, so I can make sure I have enough space in each day to do the things I need but also want to do. This isn’t just common sense. It’s good leadership. You know the saying P*** poor planning = p*** poor performance? You do now! How do you like to plan for your week ahead? -——————————————— Thank you to Susan Heaton for this set of amazing photos that she took at the conference I attended in Edinburgh last week I love all of them! 📸

🪴TIME TO GROW LONDON🪴 Yesterday, I had the honor of presenting my final Time to Grow event in my beloved home hub of London, alongside the incredible Becki Green. What a grand finale it was! We kicked off the session by emphasising the importance of investing in our current and future skills through continuous learning. Colleagues shared the key skills they developed throughout 2024. Chloe Vu and Elena T. led our panel session, featuring insights from Sarah Underhill and Alasdair Gilchrist. They reflected on 2024, discussed the path ahead for 2025, and shared valuable tips during our audience Q&A. Victor N. Rusu and Lolade Yusuf highlighted the significance of continuous delivery and forecasting through engaging hands-on activities. Colleagues learned how breaking down work, iterative delivery, and planning for the unexpected can help us deliver at pace for our customers. Ellie Capron provided us with an overview of the 'Bain & Company' RAPID decision making process, explaining why we need to use this to step away from decision by committee, thus enabling us to move at pace and cut down on bureaucracy. Sam Grayston from PA Consulting provided external insights on why placing the customer at the heart of every decision is crucial. He discussed how prioritising often means saying yes to one thing while saying no to another and the importance of challenging assumptions. Dhaval Shah from Adaptavis shared his expertise on transitioning from ‘project to product’ and why understanding our purpose and strategy is key to meeting our customers’ needs. Finally, we asked colleagues to make a pledge on how they will continue growing their skills following the event. We look forward to following up on those commitments. Feedback Highlights: “I thought today was great. The perfect amount of group activities and the speakers were fab. They discussed practical things that I want to share with my team.” “This is the first time I have managed to attend these sessions, and I will certainly make the time to attend future events.” Let’s keep growing and learning together! 🌱✨ #TimeToGrow #ContinuousLearning #SkillDevelopment #CustomerFocus #ProfessionalGrowth

Calling all members of our business club! Want to get involved with our Accountability & Growth Programme? Here’s a review from GGC Business member @claireduffy on how it has worked for her 🥰 - the A&G programme runs every quarter and is exclusive for our business members - it focuses on supporting you on the big business goals you have every quarter - we partner you up with fellow members to share your goals and stay accountable to each other - GGC support with 3 events throughout the quarter, 2 in-person and 2 virtual. The 2 in-person events see us use the ‘Growth Model’ for structured brainstorming and implementation sessions and the 3rd virtual is a recap of the quarter, sharing wins and challenges and looking ahead to the next quarter - members can select quarters that work for them - the programme is backed by studies that state people are 95% more likely to succeed on their goals if they put a timeline in place to assign to actions that need to be taken and have an accountability partner to check in with them on progress… Members can access the sign up link in our private group now to get involved for Q2… let’s make 2024 the year we put a real focus on working ‘on the business’ together 🙌🏽

I recently had the opportunity to speak at our first Owner's Summit for two break-out sessions. I shared the vision for the future of our funding services that will help clients more than ever find the critical funding they need to complete their projects. Additionally I discussed the value of having a Growth Mindset as it relates to Mentorship. It was great to connect with all our employee-owners in person and share ideas. #OwnersSummit #growthmindset #teamcollaboration
At the end of January, we held our very first Owner's Summit, ELEVATE, that united our 200+ employee-owners in the same room, creating an inspiring environment where we could connect, learn, and have fun. This event required months of meticulous planning and unwavering dedication from our strategic services team to produce three energy-packed days featuring remarkable speakers from across the country and opportunities for continuous learning.
