Today we are launching our new, multiyear philanthropic and community engagement initiative that places a sharper focus on achieving better health and vitality in key regions – building healthier communities. Through grants from The Cigna Group Foundation, as well as corporate charitable giving and employee engagement efforts, the initiative will focus on three commitments that are essential to community vitality: improving youth mental health; improving veteran mental health through housing stability; and reducing barriers to health equity. Grounded in data and insights from the Evernorth Research Institute, we are setting goals to address some of today’s biggest health challenges, starting with youth mental health. According to a recent study from Economist Impact, nearly half of parents surveyed reported their teen is experiencing mental health challenges like anxiety and depression. To help address this crisis, The Cigna Group Foundation has opened its first grant application of the year to support youth mental health and well-being. The application will be open through May 22, 2024. Healthier communities don’t just happen – we each need to do our part to create better health for all. Arkansas Nonprofit Initiative Poised To Become International Model for Helping Families in Crisis - Restore Hope announces the 100 Families Initiative will expand to other states, Canada What: Press conference to announce 100 Families Initiative going international Who: Leaders from Michigan and Canada bringing the initiative to their communities When: Monday, June 10 at 1 p.m. Where: Ouachita Behavioral Health and Wellness, 125 Wellness Way, Hot Springs, AR 71913 A model for assisting families in crisis developed by the Arkansas-based nonprofit Restore Hope is going international. Join us for a press conference where leaders from Michigan and Canada will unveil plans to integrate the 100 Families Initiative into their own communities. The officials will discuss how the initiative will positively impact their regions and the motivations behind their decision to adopt the model. The 100 Families Initiative was developed five years ago and has been implemented in sixteen Arkansas counties. As part of the initiative, communities are provided with software, called HopeHub, that connects service providers in one place to serve a family holistically. “Families in crisis have many needs, like help with food, housing, transportation, substance abuse treatment, child care, or access to mental health services. A single organization can not help a family with all of those. The software allows providers to communicate efficiently about the various needs of a family and see who all is able to assist them. This way providers are not working in silos and services are not being duplicated,” said Restore Hope Executive Director Paul Chapman. At the press conference, Restore Hope will provide a demonstration of the HopeHub software system, including its ability to track outcomes.

A 2023 White House Roundtable on Young Black Men’s Mental Health explored the need for attention to mental health among Black boys and men, highlighting that nearly 40 percent of Black teens say they struggle with persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness. According to DataHaven’s Greater Hartford Community Wellbeing Index, in 2022, Black adults were 1.6 times more likely to report feeling down or depressed as compared to white adults. At the same time, research finds that African American men with depression are significantly less likely to seek help compared with White men with depression. To advance solutions to these challenges, the Beta Iota Boule Foundation (“Boule") and the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving have announced a collaboration to support the mental health of Black boys and men. This effort includes an investment of $400,000 from the Boule that will be placed with the Hartford Foundation. The Hartford Foundation will match the Boule funds with up to $600,000 in additional funding to create a $1 million impact. Two hundred thousand dollars of these funds will be made available through the Black Giving Circle at the Hartford Foundation to support grants over the next two years. In 2024, the Black Giving Circle Fund is offering a competitive grant opportunity that will award $100,000 through five $20,000 one-year grants to support nonprofit projects related to promoting and expanding access to mental health services for Black boys and men.

For social care it’s time for action Many autistic people rely on social care to live fulfilling lives, but decades of underfunding and a lack of political action has made getting care too hard. The next Government has a chance to change this. That’s why we’re teaming up with other charities and campaigners to tell all party leaders to prioritise social care funding and reform Will you join us? Yes, I will, please follow link https://lnkd.in/eJYiXv-5 When it works well, social care can transform lives but currently, at least 2.6m people go without the right support. Care can help autistic people to live the lives they choose, to be safe and supported, to socialise, get out and about, work and volunteer. It can help family members balance their caring responsibilities too. Real leadership and action from the next government is the only way that millions of us will get the support we need. We’re saying to party leaders: ‘Show Us You Care.’ Sign the letter now by following this link https://lnkd.in/eJYiXv-5 Thank you for speaking up for social care. All the best, Ella Campaigns Manager

Imagine designing an event, social activity or service for a whole county, and deliberately excluding almost half of the population? 🤔 Welcome to Dorset, UK 🇬🇧 Is this the most unequal county in the whole of the UK? Virtually all 'Dorset wide' services, events, social activities, festivals etc are in the larger towns in the south of the county, Dorchester, Bournemouth or Poole. None of these southern towns are easily accessible from rural areas, in fact from where we are based, in Shaftesbury, it's a 3 to 4 hour journey to Bournemouth via multiple buses...that's each way! 46% of Dorset's population live in rural communities. The UK average is around 20%....so Dorset, where we are based is quite significantly unequal when it comes to accessing even basic essential support, or social activities! But this is not just a Dorset issue...it's a major problem for rural residents right across the UK! People living rurally face huge challenges and barriers to accessing support, facilities, events or services vs their urban counterparts. Why is that a problem? Because they feel excluded, isolated, unsupported, unseen, unheard and most of all they feel unimportant. It's no surprise then, that those living rurally are at higher risk of suicide. How is this acceptable? We are working together with Centre for Mental Health because we want to ensure there is national accountability! Our 'Rurally Inclusive Accreditation' scheme, will help make sure that those living rurally have equitable access to essential support services, they desperately need, and deserve. Enough is enough. 1 in 5 people live in rural areas and they are suffering! We cannot do this alone. Rural Mental Health Matters is the only organisation that represents the rural voice for England and Wales, yet as a social enterprise we receive NO funding! You can help us by donating via this link:https://lnkd.in/ekFBNGHH As well as the accreditation, we want to build rural wellbeing community centres and launch UK wide WOW vehicles, mobile outreach...WOW stands for Wellbeing On Wheels!

Every day at Kids In Crisis, I witness the incredible power of corporate partnerships transforming young lives. Behind every donation and partnership are real stories of children. At our inaugural corporate breakfast on February 12th we will hear from leaders in Fairfield County who work with Kids In Crisis and we will discuss ways we can come together as a corporate community to help with the growing youth mental health crisis. Thanks to our corporate donors, kids and families in Fairfield County can turn to Kids In Crisis whenever and wherever they need help. They can reach us through our Helpline, TeenTalk Program, and Lighthouse. When school is out— nights, weekends, or holidays—families can count on our 24/7/365 Helpline, 203-661-1911; we answered 667 calls last year. And when things became too difficult at home, your support made it possible for children to find safety in our Emergency Shelter, where we provided 1,190 nights of care to kids with nowhere else to turn. Through our Lighthouse Program, you made sure that LGBTQ+ youth had safe spaces to feel accepted and supported during critical moments in their lives. Whether it’s a conversation in school, a late-night phone call, or an overnight stay in our shelter, everything we do is because of you. Your partnership changes lives and offers hope and help to children and families across our community. These corporate partnerships transform not just the children we serve, but the corporate teams who join us. When employees come together to cook meals with our kids or decorate our Farmhouse for the holidays, something magical happens. Teams bond, spirits lift, and workplace culture thrives – it's no surprise that companies with strong community programs see employee engagement soar by up to 57%. A remarkable 86% of young professionals are actively seeking employers who make a real difference in their community – they're looking for more than just a paycheck They are building their careers while building a better world. Investing in youth mental health through programs like Kids In Crisis is one of the best opportunities for long-term societal impact. Studies show that for every $1 invested in youth mental health, communities can expect $24 in health and economic benefits over time. The youth mental health crisis in our community is growing. I invite you to join us at our upcoming Corporate Breakfast, "Transforming Tomorrow: Corporate Leaders Championing Youth Mental Health" on Wednesday, February 12th. Come learn how your company can be part of these everyday miracles, creating lasting change for youth in our community. https://lnkd.in/eQmDTV2D Together, we can build a future where every child knows they're not alone. Because when business leaders step, miracles happen.

It's time to give certainty to the amazing voluntary, community and social enterpise organisations delivering better health. We are right behind National Academy for Social Prescribing's call for a cross-government shared invesment fund, that will generate match from local NHS organisations and unlock local power, investment and sustainably funded delivery. #NaturalHealthService #SocialPrescribing #GreenPrescribing
The National Academy for Social Prescribing has published a new report, Envisaging a Social Prescribing Fund in England, which makes the case for a new fund that would support community activities, groups and services that benefit people’s health and wellbeing. The proposed 10-year, England-wide fund would bring together contributions from the public, philanthropic and private sectors to provide long-term support for local communities and social prescribing activities. Long-term funding is vital to ensure that charities and local projects can continue to offer programmes that address loneliness, reduce health inequalities and improve people’s health. We were pleased to be one of more than 100 organisations that contributed to development of the report, including charities, NHS organisations and funders.
