The Springer Global Encyclopedia of Territory Rights published my entry on Elinor Ostrom and common-pool resources. It's a comprehensive overview of the political theory and economics of "Governing the Commons" which, in the spirit of Elinor Ostrom, is also applied to thinking about public policy (specifically territory rights in international waters). Political scientist Matthew Longo came out with his latest book this spring: 'The Picnic: A Dream of Freedom and the Collapse of the Iron Curtain'. The Philosophy Of Bertrand de Jouvenel Today we share the philosophy of Bertrand de Jouvenel (1903-1987) from his work ‘Sovereignty: An Inquiry Into The Political Good’, which was originally published in 1957. Bertrand de Jouvenel was one of the great political thinkers of the twentieth century, though his work does not fit neatly into received political categories. Jouvenel's achievement was to present an original political science, one that responds to the circumstances and tragedies of the century and draws on the insights of tradition while avoiding the abstract and ahistorical character of much of our contemporary political theory. read more - https://lnkd.in/gyyC_JsN

Democracies under pressure: the results are in! For the latest edition of the Berggruen Governance Index by the Berggruen Institute, our lead author Professor Helmut Anheier compared the performance of democracies and autocracies across 145 countries worldwide. The findings: Democracies are still best for delivering public goods such as security, education or civic participation. But autocratic across the world have managed to narrow the gap and are more aggressively than ever presenting themselves as an alternative model of life. The report was just presented at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs. Get the full results here: https://bit.ly/3wDKYJG

At the 4:31mark, you speak of the best way of "securing Liberty". Did you ever read what Alexander Hamilton wrote about that in Federalist Paper Number One (1787)? It is very prophetic, given the Electoral Choice we have in 2024! Also, Dr Harry Turtledove's book "THE DIS-UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", explores this subject in greater detail.
