Are we doing this wrong? We're cleaning beaches because it's a necessary response. We mobilize volunteers and together we create change at the source. 👉 We have waste management projects to reduce trash that could potentially flow into the ocean. 👉 We work on new laws to stop smoking on the beach. 100% of baby turtles have plastics like sigarete butts in their bellies. 👉 We have underwater cleanups to help coral grow strong and resilience. 👉 We have mangrove cleanups which helps grow fish population, so locals maintain their source of income. 👉 We plant new trees so less fertile soil washes away. 👉 We run composting programs to reduce domestic waste and create fertile soil for our trees. 👉 We work together with other NGO's and help them grow and expand their positive impact. 👉 We educate at (high) schools to show people what they can do now to regenerate their own land. 👉 We run CSR programs so local companies help revitalize their own nation. 👉 and much more. The list goes on. Then someone DOESN'T want to donate because 'it's unclear where the money goes.' Ah. Are we doing it wrong then? Should we limit what we do so it is easier to understand? Thoughts?

Food waste is a huge contributor to the waste crisis and the climate crisis. That's why we're working to advance large-scale solutions to reduce food waste. Check out the post below on how you can be part of advancing #ZeroWaste solutions with Just Zero!
Food waste is the LARGEST single component taking up space in our landfills. 🍽️🚯 But we can stop #foodwaste from happening by: 1️⃣ Buying only what we can eat. 2️⃣ Preparing the right portion sizes. 3️⃣ Storing leftover food properly. 4️⃣ Composting. ♻️ And if we want to make an even bigger impact, we need to focus on making changes at the systemic level. 🌍 That’s where Just Zero comes in! 💪 We work with lawmakers to help create environmental laws that benefit both the planet and everyone who lives in it, but this work wouldn’t be possible without the help from our donors. 🙌 Please consider donating to Just Zero via the link! Every dollar helps us fight for the planet where it matters. https://buff.ly/3J6BnxF #Sustainability #SystemicChange #EnvironmentalLaws #DonateForChange 🌱🌎💚

Why we do things is such a nuanced and often thought-provoking question to field... At home, we've recently been making the much-needed but painful move toward removing all single-use plastic from our home. Now, please don't believe what you read online, making this move is HARD, especially for a young family with one or more grommets running around with a perpetual need to break things... 🫠 However, as with any difficult thing, it's good to remind yourself WHY, and that why for us is our daughter Ava. She loves all things outdoors, but she especially LOVES the ocean. Unfortunately, our world's oceans are under attack as a result of our everyday habits - over 1 million metric tons of plastic enter our waterways every year. ⚠️ I encourage everyone to get involved and do their bit for our oceans as much as possible. From participating in Beach Clean-ups (we have some great local organisations such as Save-a-Fishie here in South Africa), donating to local or global initiatives (eg. The Ocean Cleanup or Parley for the Oceans) or simply saying no to that single-use plastic bag. Every little bit counts! And, I'd love to know, what is something difficult you or your family are dedicated to? And what is your why? #sustainabilityfirst #oceancleanup #findyourwhy

Invigorating news for anyone who cares about clean water: Dip A Day 2024 is on the horizon! 🏊🏽🛁🥶💪 Last year, our hardy dippers braved cold water every day for a month and raised £202,105 to help fund our ocean-saving work. Do you – and maybe your team mates – have it in you too? Challenge yourself to dip everyday in October, in any cold water that’s safe and accessible to you. Whether it’s a local cove, loch, cold shower or even a garden tub (it’s been done before!) you’ll be part of a growing community that’s found a joyful way to make a difference. Plus you’ll get a daily endorphin hit too. Through the money their month of shivers made, 2023’s Dip-a-Dayers helped fund our vital campaigning to keep sewage pollution at the top of the political agenda for the general election so that – along with plastic pollution – it landed as a top priority for the new Environment Secretary. And we’re far from finished. With a new government elected we have a unique window to demand meaningful change – from our calls for a public enquiry into the water sector, to achieving more Designated Bathing Spaces that put legal obligations on water quality monitoring in the UK. But we need more funds to do it. Don’t miss out on the last big action this year! Come together as Ocean Activists, keep up the pressure and show you care about the ocean and all it makes possible. Join us for Dip A Day in October 2024. Registration opens on 27 August. One dip every day in any form of cold water. For all of October. To raise ocean-saving funds. Let’s do this! Find out more and save the date - https://lnkd.in/eECdAQUp #dipaday #dipadayinoctober #fundraising

#EarthDay appeal with Big Give is now live! 🎉 Meaning every pound we receive over the next week, will be matched at no extra cost to you. Our rivers are crisis! Our reliance on single-use plastics is adding unnecessary strain to these already struggling ecosystems, with a shocking 80% of the ocean’s plastic pollution travelling via our rivers 😲 Now more than ever, we need your help to continue our vital campaigning work to help keep our rivers and oceans plastic-free. Recent Marine Conservation Society beach clean data shows more than 480,000 items of litter found on UK beaches - with drinks-related litter one of the most found! By donating to our Earth Day appeal, YOU can do something about this. For ONE WEEK ONLY, every pound will be matched – so your £25 becomes £50 to go towards powering our campaigns like Refill to help keep our rivers and oceans plastic-free. https://lnkd.in/eaRECQkF

This powerful visual presents a simple yet impactful message: Donate Red, Spread Green, Save Blue. Donate Red: The vibrant red droplet represents the importance of blood donation, a small act that can save countless lives. It's a reminder to contribute towards a healthier society by participating in blood donation drives. Spread Green: The lush green drop signifies the significance of planting trees and preserving nature. In an era of climate change and environmental degradation, spreading greenery is crucial for restoring balance to our ecosystems. Save Blue: The blue droplet highlights the need to conserve water and protect our planet's precious water resources. As our global population grows, so does the pressure on freshwater supplies. Every drop saved today ensures a sustainable future for tomorrow. This image is a call to action for social responsibility: donating blood to save lives, planting trees to protect our environment, and conserving water to secure our future. Let’s work together to create a healthier, greener, and more sustainable world. 🌍🌱 Since 1970, the 22nd of April each year is Earth Day. As an environmental charity, it offers us a chance to reflect on our actions that help to mitigate the impact of climate change, through the reduction of household carbon emissions across Cheshire & Merseyside. In a typical year, we support approximately 9,000 households to reduce their energy bills by around £1m, with an associated reduction in carbon emissions of about 1,000tCO2 (being lifetime tonnes of carbon dioxide). Many people won’t necessarily realise it, but every time you save yourself £1 off your energy bills, by remembering to switch off a light, or not overfilling your kettle, you’re also helping reduce your carbon footprint. For more details visit www.epplus.org . 🌿💡 #EarthDay #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #Merseyside #cheshire #energycharity #EPP #EnergyGrants #energyefficiency #localcharity

🌿 Our Social Value Initiative in the UK: Supporting Environmental Causes 🌿 We're excited to announce our contributions to two impactful causes, with a commitment to doing even more in the future. 1st cause: Just One Tree 🌳 A fantastic non-profit organization dedicated to removing CO2 from the atmosphere through global reforestation. We're proud to have contributed 50 trees so far! 🌲🌲🌲 Here are some inspiring quotes from Just One Tree: "Your 50 trees will remove approximately 15.4 tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere over the next 25 years." "It means another vital 50 trees added to increase forests in countries that badly need it, such as Brazil, Madagascar, and Kenya. It means more kelp can be regenerated to balance our oceans off Australia and the Philippines. It means rural employment and a greener future for the communities." 2nd cause: Surfers Against Sewage 🏄♂️ For the past 30 years, Surfers Against Sewage has grown into one of the UK’s most successful marine conservation and campaigning charities. We’re proud to support their mission and look forward to participating in an event with them at our next UK team gathering. Together, we can help protect our oceans and coastal environments. 🌊 Stay tuned for more updates on our journey towards a greener and more sustainable future! 💚 #SocialValue #EnvironmentalInitiative #JustOneTree #SurfersAgainstSewage #Reforestation
