Exciting news! 🎉 #ClimateChoice was featured in the lastest #BME magazine, highlighting our work in tackling Scope 3 emissions and the decarbonization of supply chains! ✨✨✨ The article touches on the challenges companies are facing with the upcoming CSRD requirements, which will mandate that not only #large enterprises but also #SMEs disclose their CO2 emissions in the global supply chain starting in 2025. 📊 This regulation will significantly impact #procurement, as up to 90% of emissions come from the upstream stages of value creation (Scope 3) and not from direct operations (Scope 1 and 2). Our CEO, Yasha Tarani, emphasized the importance of integrating climate data into procurement to achieve meaningful reductions in emissions.Yet, many procurement departments are still at the beginning stages of this journey. In addition, the BME magazine highlighted how our Scope 3 Action Group, in collaboration with partners like #WifOR Institute, #MyClimate, and #AMC, is helping procurement and sustainability teams better understand which data to collect from suppliers, and how to use this information for emissions #accounting and #reduction planning. 🌱📉 We are thrilled to see our mission gaining recognition and momentum in the procurement community. A big thank you to BME for this feature and to all the companies joining us in the journey towards a more sustainable future! 💪🌱 ➡ Find the article attached as pdf to this post 📖 #ClimateChoice #Scope3 #SustainableProcurement #Decarbonization #BME #SupplyChain #ClimateAction #Sustainability #Scope3ActionGroup

$335 billion. The total suggested liability from disclosed scope 3 upstream emissions from manufacturing, retail and materials to CDP in 2023. A liability that is at serious risk of being overlooked by corporates and investors. Great to sit down with Diana Dimitrova Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Sonya Bhonsle CDP to discuss a very real blind-spot in both corporate and investor action. 💵 Fewer than 1 in 10 investors who reported to CDP in 2023 require investee companies to report scope 3 emissions as part of investment policies. 💹 Corporate supply chain scope 3 emissions are 26x higher than operational emissions (on average). 92x higher for retail, 47x higher for apparel. 💡 We found 3 significant drivers of action: a climate responsible board, supplier engagement strategies and an internal carbon price. Despite some initial signs of investors starting recognise this, and the impact it has on their own scope 3 downstream emissions, much more needs to be done to price in risks and demand transparency.
Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and CDP have released findings from the third annual supply chain report, revealing that upstream Scope 3 emissions are, on average, 26 times higher than Scopes 1 and 2's. Diana Dimitrova sat down with Sonya Bhonsle and James Chamberlayne to discuss. Sonya points out that it's not more upstream Scope 3 emissions that have driven this growth. Rather, more companies are reporting on their upstream Scope 3 emissions, assessing those emissions better, and, by doing so, highlighting the scale of the upstream challenge. The report uncovers crucial insights and provides actionable strategies for corporations to advance their action and ambition on upstream Scope 3 emissions. Regulations, frameworks, certifications. If you think about it, it's been at least three years (considering the CSRD, which accelerated everything) that the world of consulting and sustainability departments, instead of bringing intelligence into organizations to drive real change, have been racking their brains on how to comply with all the tasks, how not to be caught unprepared by auditors. This drives me crazy—everything is stuck, but it's understandable because it's hard to be completely honest about the trade-offs of sustainability and the untouchability of growth. Rather than addressing the issue, the focus is on putting bows on the system. This is a thought that often crosses my mind when I sit on corporate sustainability committees, and it was sparked by the list completed by Marcus Feldthus. But to all those who struggle with trade-offs and timidly say, 'Well, we need to produce more, grow,' and don't feel convinced, I want to offer them a safe space to discuss, imagine new futures, talk about post-growth, and reconnect with nature. Fortunately, with Lorenzo Costanzo, PhD, PhD, we're working on the first experiences in nature with AConnection.

Did I forget a letter combination? Image: Tamma Carel (PIEMA, FIIRSM, MSc, BSc) Note 01. Some of these abbreviations relate to critical work absolutely. I am not saying we shouldn't have CSRD or CSDDD, for example. We need such legislation. What I am saying, which aligns perfectly with Tamma's image, is that there seems to be something off with the proportions of action versus reporting and talking. Note 02. I explore how to take action to align business with planetary and social boundaries, which means that I know it's not always easy in this system. But we must do what we can with what we have. Addressing Scope 3 emissions is crucial for sustainability. From a transportation standpoint, this can be achieved by deploying a Transportation Management Platform like e2log that handles the end-to-end logistics process across all service providers, modes of transport, and types of cargo, both domestically and internationally. Bringing together all transactions across all service providers onto a single platform is hugely powerful and pivotal to tackling this challenge. The integration of data across multiple sources first helps capture, then identifies, and creates opportunities to reduce these emissions effectively. This technology transforms Industrial and Project supply chains into models of efficiency and sustainability. #Sustainability #SupplyChain #Scope3Emissions #LogisticsTech #CarbonFootprint #e2log
Addressing the Scope 3 Emissions in Industrial and Project Supply Chains: A recent article from Boston Consulting Group (BCG) reveals that Scope 3 emissions are 26 times higher than their direct operational emissions. Despite this, 15% of the companies have set targets to address them, highlighting the urgent need for strategic action - This gap underscores the need for strategic action within supply chains. 🔍 Understanding the Scope 3 Emissions Gap: The majority of a company's carbon footprint lies within its supply chain, and tackling Scope 3 emissions requires a holistic approach - encompassing both upstream, and downstream activities - responsibility for managing these emissions falls on corporate leadership and investors. 🔧 Strategic Action and Technology: The solution lies in creating a supply chain where data is fully integrated and flows seamlessly, providing 100% transparency. With integrated systems for real-time visibility and accurate measurement, decision-making is transformed - by leveraging cutting-edge technology, industrial and project supply chains not only become more efficient but, also more sustainable. 🌍 Why This Matters: 🔸 Comprehensive Evaluation: Drive emission reductions by evaluating the entire supply chain. 🔸 Strategic Leadership: Ambitious targets require climate-responsible leadership. 🔸 Transparency: Achieve sustainability goals with greater transparency and disclosure. Focusing on comprehensive emission management is essential for a sustainable future, let's transform our supply chains into models of resilience, agility and sustainability.
