Dr. Block – The Evolving Cannabis Space (Summer, 2024) This June 10, 2024 talk was presented at the request of physicians interested in educational conversations concerning anti-aging medicine. Endocannabinoid science and recent research evaluating the risks vs. benefits of Cannabis has reconsidered its clinical use. Considering the United States Federal government recently announced that after studying the evidence-based data supporting the use of Marijuana for limited purposes as a medicine, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has changed it’s disposition on Marijuana as a Schedule 1 Prohibited substance, and now recommends that it be moved into a Schedule 3 Controlled drug status. Rule-making will be the next stage of a process that ultimately allows physicians to legally prescribe Marijuana for legitimate patient uses. Cannabis’ education, its research, and its interstate commerce are important beneficiaries resulting from this policy change. Jeffrey S Block, M.D. – Physician-Botanist (Miami, Florida USA).

"Today, we review a study done in 2017 regarding the unintended impacts of legalizing medical marijuana that many suspected would create an increase in hospitalizations for patients who use both Cannabis and Opioid Medications. This research found that no increase such as this can be proven; instead, a decrease in opioid pain reliever use as well as hospitalization in regards to such. While the anti-cannabis drum keeps on beating, there's no way to debate pharmaceutical and hospital records that prove its ability to decrease the use of drugs of dependence, such as opioids, or decrease hospitalization for the combination of the two. With legalization, many assumed that the depression of the CNS by pain medications combined with cannabis (with high THC) would have caused a higher number of people overdosing or hospitalized due to respiratory issues and more. Let's take a look at the research: "Medical marijuana policies and hospitalizations related to marijuana and opioid pain reliever" -Mike Robinson, Founder Nanobles Corp. / Global Cannabinoid Research Center (GCRC) https://lnkd.in/grYZQsvF

A Pivotal Moment for Cannabis and Psychedelics Policy in the U.S. As the cannabis and psychedelics industries continue to grow, states across the country are re-evaluating their approaches to legalization and regulation. Last night’s votes reflect a mix of progress and ongoing challenges: 🔹 Nebraska: Both measures to legalize medical marijuana and establish a medical cannabis commission passed with strong support, signaling a win for patient access in the Midwest. 🔹 Florida, North Dakota, South Dakota: Recreational cannabis legalization faced setbacks. Florida voters turned down the initiative, while North Dakota and South Dakota showed close margins in opposition. 🔹 Massachusetts: Efforts to legalize psychedelics were unsuccessful, highlighting continued resistance in some regions. These results are reminders of the complexities in navigating public opinion and regulatory landscapes. As we move forward, these mixed outcomes emphasize the need for persistent advocacy, education, and responsible industry leadership to support the evolving regulatory frameworks across the nation. #CannabisIndustry #Psychedelics #Regulation #CannabisAdvocacy #IndustryInsights #PublicPolicy #CannabisCommunity

After 50 years of being on the most restrictive schedule alongside drugs like heroin and PCP, the DEA will move to reschedule marijuana into Schedule III, where the plant’s medical benefits will finally be recognized by the federal government. This monumental shift in federal drug policy was made possible because of the patients, physicians, activists, entrepreneurs, scientists, and policymakers who have worked for decades to create regulated medical cannabis markets and establish the necessary scientific evidence. This work laid the political foundation for President Biden’s historic directive demanding a review of marijuana’s scheduling. Schedule III is not just a significant improvement for reality-based science, it also will have major tax benefits for cannabis businesses and will amplify reform progress at the state and federal level as we collectively push for full federal legalization.
