Early educators earn a mean hourly wage of just $15.42—far below the U.S. living wage of $25.02 for a single person. Paying a living wage would ensure early educators can afford basic needs like housing and food. It also allows them to save for retirement or invest in long-term financial security. This is about strengthening the workforce and supporting hardworking families. Read more: https://ow.ly/1MRs50Uvm8n

Recently asked by OPI leadership to investigate differences between the wages of teachers and administrators based on length of service and highest education obtained. What was important to the study was not the fact that the total wages differ between teachers and administrators, however the study investigated whether incremental change year over year was more or less the same. About half of Montana educators earn a Master's degree and there is a noticable bump in wages during those years that educators are more likely to obtain a master's degree or be promoted into a new position. This is different from the over 30 years of service group where wage increases taper off. There is evidence that as teachers are promoted into terminal position, that opportunities and incentives to stay employed taper off. There were relatively few teachers and administrators in this group that had earned a PhD or DEd (109). The average general education teacher with one of these degrees earned $62,544 signaling a relatively young workforce with a doctorate. Principal with these degrees earn on average $104,606.20.

The debate around sub-minimum wage rates for minors is always framed around an equity argument- equal pay for equal work. Yet employment law elsewhere explicitly provides for different employment terms for young workers. The equity argument is an empty one. Some basic common sense is required here, or access to employment and opportunities for the "first job" will progressively close for young people. #budget2025 Department of Finance Ireland Department of Public Expenditure NDP Delivery & Reform https://lnkd.in/eA-dhJDr

Congratulations to American Student Assistance and The Burning Glass Institute for releasing a new report revealing that almost one in five workers without degrees out-earn the median college graduate annual wage of $70,000. Approximately 2 million nondegree workers are currently pulling in six figures a year, according to the report. As the report notes: "Certain entry-level roles—what we call 'Launchpad Jobs'—set workers up for rapid career growth while providing a mix of good pay and benefits, job stability, and promotion potential. Many of these jobs pay relatively well. But even some low-wage starts can lead to good places. Take Bank Tellers, for example: while their average initial wage is less than $29,000, those starting out here can, on average, earn upwards of $54,000 annually within a decade." https://lnkd.in/gPWKRTDj You think it's tough to be a teacher in Texas? Try doing it for $33,660.00 per year (barely above the national poverty level for a family of 4). This minimum salary amount for first year teachers hasn't changed since 2018, although inflation has increased by 25% over that same time period. With new representatives in Texas, it's time to quit underpaying those we're trusting with our most valuable resources and lift the salary floor for educators.

The National Education Association reports a significant decline in teacher salaries over the past decade, with average earnings now 5% less than a decade ago. The report highlights the ongoing teacher shortage and the need to address the teacher pay penalty. The report also highlights the stark gap between teacher salaries and the minimum living wage in some states. #educatorwages #teachershortage https://lnkd.in/eEarVFRH

Low pay is just one of the many challenges teachers face. They also deal with large class sizes, limited resources, and increasing workloads. Let's raise awareness about this issue and put pressure on policymakers to address the problem. #TeachersRights #Education #FairWages #Pakistan #EducationReform
𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗱! Teachers are being paid shockingly low salaries, ranging from 𝟳𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝘁𝗼 𝟭𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗿𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗲𝘀/𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵. This includes teachers with master's degrees. Imagine studying for 16 years and getting paid money which can't even cover your fuel costs. In the past few days, I’ve heard dozens of these stories from underpaid teachers and it’s depressing, to say the least. It's high time for strict enforcement of laws against minimum wage violations.
