Today’s International Day of #Families is an opportunity to raise awareness of important family issues. In the latest #European #Yearbook on Human Rights, Domenico Rosani and I had a closer look at one of them: #surrogacy. The European Union is currently working on a new Regulation to ensure the recognition of parenthood across Member States. As Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said, 'If you are parent in one country, you are parent in every country'. However, whether this should also apply to parents who resorted to surrogacy is still a hotly debated topic. Our chapter combines human rights perspectives with a private international law analysis to investigate the ongoing legislative debate. Our aim was to address concerns about surrogacy and children's rights (in a way, we hope, accessible also to those unfamiliar with private international law and human rights) – ultimately showing that not all fears are justified. For those interested, you can check out our findings in the Yearbook 2023, pp. 353–390: https://lnkd.in/e6xeFcXU. Special thanks to Lisa Heschl and the entire editorial team (Philip Czech, Karin Lukas, Manfred Nowak, Gerd Oberleitner) as well as to Larcier-Intersentia for their invaluable work. If I were Snow White, LinkedIn would be the evil queen We all know the story of Snow White. The queen tried to kill her but instead pushed her out of her comfort zone, which in turn made her find new friends and eventually her Prince Charming. Every fairytale can be told in different versions. Every person has a different story. Every journey has a different path. I mentioned earlier that when I first joined LinkedIn, I was oppressed. It was way out of my comfort zone, and like the seven dwarves, the people here had already adapted to the strange world and were living peacefully. I wanted to be consistent, but it was discouraging. Everything was too much for me. Too serious for me. But in time, I learnt to adapt to the environment. I learnt from the inhabitants of the environment and observed how they had learnt to survive. And then, I put the survival skills into practice. This is what LinkedIn has done for me: ✅Pushed me out of my comfort zone. Instead of staying in a sheltered palace, LinkedIn challenged me to go out into the real world and see how hard people are working for these dreams. ✅Helped me connect with seven dwarves. There are so many kinds of people on this space. People doing things I’ve never even heard about in my life until I joined LinkedIn. ✅Made me realise that I have to work my way into any position I want. It could be the fairest of them all or the most valuable of them all. Whatever it is, it has to be earned for it to be valuable. ✅Taught me the importance of consistency. ✅Who knows? I can also find my Prince Charming here too😂 So, just like every fairytale, the villain is just as important as the protagonist. It’s the struggles and challenges they throw your way that shape you into being a hero that everyone loves. What challenges are you facing on LinkedIn, and how can it help you do better? PS: For this post, I had to look for a picture that looks like I’m standing in a forest like Snow White. 😂😂 ———————- It’s the fourth day of showing up on the #21dayslinkedintourwithtomide. Cheers to #thrivewithtomide

🎭A look behind the mask Today, as we embrace the Jewish holiday of Purim, we're invited into a world where imagination reigns and masks symbolize not just disguise but the freedom to explore and express our innermost desires and dreams. Purim is a celebration of the human spirit's capacity for creativity and transformation 🔄. With its kaleidoscope of costumes and masks 🎨, Purim echoes the global allure of masquerades, from the intricate elegance of Venice's masks to the rhythmic energy of Brazil's Carnival and the whimsical charm of Halloween in the USA. This holiday isn't just about donning a mask; it's an invitation to step out of the ordinary, to embody our fantasies and unleash our creativity. It's a day where the boundaries blur between who we are and who we can be, offering a canvas for the imagination to paint its boldest dreams. Beyond individual expression, Purim embodies the strength of community 🤝. It's a time when people come together to celebrate, create, and share in the joy of these traditions, reinforcing our connections and underscoring a universal desire for togetherness and celebration. It's a reminder that, despite our diverse cultures and traditions, we all share a common yearning for moments of joy, creativity, and unity. Remembering this always leads us in the way we conduct events for people and organizations. #Purim #FestivalOfMasks #GlobalCelebrations #CommunityJoy #CreativeSpirit
