🥵 The US Army has developed a wearable technology that can prevent severe heat-related injuries among soldiers. The wireless Heat Injury Prevention System device can be strapped to a soldier’s chest while performing missions or doing intense physical activity. It measures critical data, such as heart rate, skin temperature, and estimated core body temperature. The tech also analyzes the wearer’s movements to predict if he is at elevated risk for heat injury. A commander or drill sergeant will be notified via cellular phone if this happens. #military #technology #militarytechnology #militarytech #innovation #defense #defence #defenseindustry #defenceindustry #unitedstates #us #usarmy #technology #wearables #wearabletech #wearabletechnology

A real game changer Senop AFCD TI is now available for the Carl-Gustaf® M3 and M4 Multi-Role Weapon System users. The AFCD TI is one of the first intelligent sights on the market qualified for the Carl-Gustaf and the only system which integrates all performance-critical features into one casing. The AFCD TI is the first sight in the world for the Carl-Gustaf weapon system that can internally do ballistic and lead calculation and has both thermal and day cameras, all in the same casing. The intelligent sight features an integrated thermal imaging system and advanced ballistic computer, which significantly improves the first-round hit probability. The light weight of the system and easy-to-use UI makes the AFCD TI effortless to use during operations. Bringing thermal capabilities to squad level significantly improve operational awareness. By using its internal sensors and calculating a new predicted crosshair for the operator, AFCD TI increases the first-round hit probability, decreases the time of engagement, and drastically reduces aiming errors. These factors are key for the weapon system operators. You can find more information about Senop´s capabilities at the Land Forces International Land Defence Exposition in Australia, stand D229. A few observations are in order: The Chengdu J-20 is indeed formidable, showcasing #PRC's growing defense industrial capacity. Why? CAPABILITY: As #PLAAF's first 5th-gen fighter, J-20 'Mighty Dragon' represents a quantum leap in indigenous capability. This alone serves as a key lesson for Western stakeholders. Should deterrence fail, the #US and Indo-Pacific Allies’ F-35 fleets will face stealthy, omni-sensor platforms, supported by sophisticated data infrastructure, in a heavily saturated #electromagnetic operational environment. In short, F-35 may have found its peer competitor. DEFENSE ECONOMICS: J-20's development was facilitated by (relative) purchasing power multipliers and (again, relative) supply chain autonomy. The arduous development of the Shenyang WS-10 afterburner turbofan engine replaced the Salyut Lyulka-Saturn AL-31 in recent J-20s, insourcing key strategic value chain segments from #Russia. This leverages and adds to #China's existing advantages in critical raw materials and mature semiconductors, both crucial to defense. BUT: Whether J-20 is a true peer competitor to F-35 is debatable. While F-35 is multirole, J-20 was designed for air superiority, closer in comparison to the F-22 Raptor, still the most capable and maneuverable stealth fighter. Anecdotal evidence suggests J-20's #RCS is larger than F-35's by an order of magnitude, likely due to its larger form factor. J-20 remains untested in live combat. China’s J-20 fleet now surpasses INDOPACOM’s F-35s, but the US wouldn't defend #Taiwan alone. #Japan, #Korea, and #Australia have a combined 200+ F-35s, with a total of 300+ ordered. #Singapore also expects 12 F-35B Lightning IIs US INDOPACOM and regional Allies together also operate almost 2,000 platforms altogether, including massive 4th-gen F-15, F-16, and F/A-18 arsenals in addition to capital F-35 assets While J-20 proliferation is concerning, it's important to consider wider force composition. The PLAAF still operates over 300 legacy Chengdu J-7s, a MiG-21 variant. Limited Russian imports, such as Su-27, Su-30, and Su-35, were meant as springboards for indigenous platforms. To what extent J-20 can, will, and is even meant to 'replace' these remains unclear. Chengdu J-10 'Vigorous Dragon', Shenyang J-11 (Su-27 derivative), and J-16 'Hidden Dragon' form PLAAF's 4th-gen core, still in lower numbers (1,100+) than US and Allied fighters in the region Follow BCE Consulting (BCE)'s Global A&D Practice for more insights on the evolving Indo-Pacific and North Atlantic defense industry.
