We've partnered with NCS - National Citizen Service Trust and Centre for Young Lives to explore evidence linking participation in enrichment activities to improved academic attendance - due to the current 'absence epidemic' 🚨 As part of this research, the commission will investigate relationships between taking part in enrichment, and school attendance - by looking at case studies within schools and completing interviews with educators across the UK. “Young people have a right to the best possible education, and that includes having access to high quality enrichment activities." Very little in this document is new information to those prepared in school-based functional behavioral assessment; however, clarification that FBA is not to be used strictly for Manifestation Determination Review is welcome! (Some might call this information "old wine in new bottle", what do you say Alan Poling)

Ethnic diversity in schools in England remains a challenge for all of us. In our new discussion paper, we explore National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER)'s research and look at practical feedback from CST member trusts and other sector colleagues about their approaches and challenges. The paper seeks to offer some concrete steps that school trusts can make to take real ownership of encouraging diversity, and to encourage innovative thought about new approaches to recruitment, retention and progression and, importantly, governance. 1moThis sounds fantastic and I look forward to seeing the results. Don't forget the basics though - more free play and no phones in school can make a huge difference to young people's lives.
