Our latest article from former Vice Chair of the RSPCA, Jane Tredgett, is a powerful exploration of her shift from animal welfare to full animal rights advocacy. Reflecting on her journey as a former RSPCA trustee in light of undercover footage surfacing from an Animal Rising investigation, Jane explores how her involvement with both the RSPCA and Animal Rebellion highlights a deep disillusionment with welfare reforms, which she argues merely normalise animal exploitation. After stepping down from the RSPCA following her activism with Animal Rebellion, Tredgett’s commitment to ending all forms of speciesism and exploitation becomes clear. “A cage is a cage,” she writes, emphasising that true change lies in recognising animals’ right to live free from human use—not just improving their living conditions. 🔗 Read more > https://lnkd.in/gkk32QWd 📸: @animaljusticeproject #AnimalRights #Veganism #TheEcologist #RSPCA #AnimalRebellion #JaneTredgett #PETA

A key argument in Schapper and Bliss' paper "Transforming our world? Strengthening animal rights and animal welfare at the United Nations" is that the neglect of animals in the SDGs is more than an oversight, it counters the transformative potential of the goals. October 4, 2024 World Animal Day: Advocating for the Universal Declaration of Animal Rights It's time we recognize that animals deserve more than just protection, they deserve rights. By ratifying a Universal Declaration of Animal Rights, we can urge governments to enforce laws that safeguard animal welfare and impose sanctions on violators. This global framework would ensure that animals are treated with dignity, compassion, and care, reflecting our responsibility as stewards of the planet. The Partij voor de Dieren (Party for the Animals) in the Netherlands, founded by Marianne Thieme in 2002, was the world’s first political party to focus solely on animal rights and environmental protection. This groundbreaking movement highlights that political advocacy for animal rights is not just possible, it's necessary. Their efforts inspire us to push for stronger, globally enforced regulations that include penalties for violations. Let’s work together to ensure that animals are protected, both by moral duty and enforceable law. #harry360 #AnimalRights #UniversalDeclaration #PartijvoordeDieren #Sustainability

I recently changed my bio to include *animal rights activist*. I hesitated, as that has been given such negative connotations by the zoo industry. Yes, industry. The #AssociationofZoos&Aquarium s is a $17.3 billion industry annually--and that only covers about 270 zoos in the US out of a total 4,000 zoos. Now think of all the animals that die in zoos--thousands? Tens of thousands? No one knows. The one agency charged with enforcing the Animal Welfare Act, the U.S.D.A. Animal Plant Health Inspection Service Animal Care division, doesn't keep track. You may think--would they die anyway? Don't zoos serve a purpose? In my opinion, no, and no. Makeover Monday W9 Animal Rights: Best and Worst Countries for Animal Rights A topic very near & dear to me. I believe animals are sentient, feeling, individual creatures. They deserve our respect, empathy, compassion, and laws to protect them.
