Voters overwhelmingly support eliminating closed, partisan primaries. 90% of respondents to a 2023 Citizen Data Poll agreed that all voters should be able to vote for any candidate regardless of party. 76% of respondents from that same poll agreed a candidate must earn a majority of the vote in order to win an election. Across the country, voters are speaking out about closed, partisan primaries that disenfranchise millions of voters and produce politicians who do not represent the majority of the electorate. In this historic election year as six states pursue open, all-candidate election reform measures to abolish party primaries, voters will have the opportunity to use their voices with their votes.
