Who’s Teaching Who? At HDM Engineering, we’re big believers in the saying, “Every day’s a school day.” And with our newest Electrical Engineering Apprentice, Finley Leech, on board, we’re reminded that teaching is a two-way street. Since joining us in August 2024, Finley’s been diving headfirst into the world of British-built recycling machinery and conveyors. Under the guidance of Dave Howarth and the rest of the team at HDM, he’s learning the ins and outs of electrical systems, control panels, and PLC programming. But here’s the twist: Finley’s fresh perspective and curious questions are sparking new ideas for our team, too! While we’re passing down decades of industry expertise, Finley’s modern approach to learning—and his knack for tech—keeps us sharp. He’s proving that sometimes the teacher becomes the student. Investing in apprenticeships isn’t just about shaping the future of British engineering. It’s about creating a dynamic exchange of knowledge that keeps our team innovative and ahead of the curve. Here’s to Finley and the future engineers who remind us that learning never stops! #Apprenticeships #ApprenticeshipsInEngineering #EngineeringApprenticeships #FutureEngineers #HDMEngineering

As I reflect on my first three months at Eaton, I am filled with a sense of accomplishment and excitement. This period has been a whirlwind of new experiences and learning opportunities, both within the workplace and beyond. The journey so far has been nothing short of life changing. From the outset, I have been immersed in the complexities of the electrical sector. This has involved not only understanding the theoretical aspects but also applying this knowledge in practical scenarios. Each day has presented a new challenge. These tasks have significantly sharpened my technical skills and deepened my understanding of the industry. Moreover, these experiences have been instrumental in boosting my confidence. Tackling real-world problems has honed my problem-solving abilities and taught me the importance of collaboration and adaptability. The support and mentorship from my colleagues have been invaluable, providing guidance and encouragement every step of the way. I cannot emphasize enough the value of apprenticeships for those contemplating this career path. The blend of hands on experience and academic learning has been incredibly enriching. It has allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings, thereby solidifying my understanding and enhancing my skill set. This dual approach has been crucial in my development as an engineering professional. As we all approach the festive season, I wish everyone a wonderful holiday and look forward to the challenges and opportunities for growth that lie ahead in the new year. #Engineering #MechanicalEngineering #Apprenticeship #STEM

Why is an apprentice good for your business? Hiring an apprentice supports businesses and industry growth, it also gives you the chance to teach and guide the next generation of workers on-site. An apprenticeship is full-time work with training included in the working week. We've simplified the process so you can focus on your business while your apprentice achieves a nationally recognised qualification. 1300apprentice have decades of experience supporting businesses with apprentices and trainees in many fields like Engineering, Electrotechnology, Building & Construction, Automotive, Horticulture, & Business 👷♀👷♂ For more information, call 1300 277 736 or https://lnkd.in/dykR3guA #apprenticeship #traineeship #careers #vetopensdoors #skillsnsw #realskillsforrealcareers #SkillsForLife #tradeskills #womenintrades #recruitmentagency #vocationaleducation #skillssynergy #studentsuccess #dreamjob #horticulture #engineering #automotive #business #building #construction #matureaged #sbat #apprentice #hvac #painter #carpenter #electrician #mechanic #civil #welder

I am honoured to be featured in the IET's "Meet the apprentices" section. https://lnkd.in/egkymj8G I am very passionate about promoting the apprenticeship route into the industry. I know from my own experience that educational institutions tend to downplay the role of apprenticeships and the impact completing one can have on your future career. There is still a lot of stigma and misconceptions out there, and of course, schools push their students to pursue further education in the form of the more traditional university route. However, with the new apprenticeship schemes you get to earn a qualification at any level you're interested in, including degree, whilst gaining invaluable industry experience. Similarly, I know that many young girls are anxious about pursuing a career in STEM. I understand how scary it is to enter into a male-dominated field, perhaps even having people close to you discourage your interest. The truth is, whatever you do in life you'll be met with some degree of opposition and adversity. But having worked in the industry, I know it's full of people eager to help and encourage you as you develop in your chosen field. My career in engineering has been extremely rewarding and I know for a fact I made the right choice by going for an apprenticeship. I have learnt so much, got to work on fascinating projects and met some truly wonderful people ready to support me and my future career. I hope that with the help of the IET, my case study can help to inspire anyone interested in pursuing a similar path, who might be feeling a little bit scared or unsure, to take that leap of faith.
