The Eric Liddell 100’s Post

THE ERIC LIDDELL 100 TODAY is the day that we have all been waiting for, it is exactly 100 years to the day, 11th July 1924, that Eric Liddell won gold in the 400m race at the Paris Olympics, breaking the World Record in the process. Eric won this race, yet he wasn't even meant to be competing in it. Being a devoted Christian, Eric refused to run his preferred 100m race as it was taking place on a Sunday, and instead opted for the much trickier 400m race, and the rest is history. History that many may be familiar with due to the success of the Oscar-winning film, Chariots of Fire. There is no doubt that this had a massive impact on ensuring that Eric's legacy was secured, but The Eric Liddell 100 initiative was set up to make sure that Eric's story and values were passed on to everyone, including generations to come. By setting up resources relevant to all in order we aim to inspire the next generation and secure, cherish and celebrate the legacy of Eric Liddell. A massive part of being able to do this has been the generosity of everyone who has committed time, money and resources towards The Eric Liddell 100, and there is still time to help. With the Olympics coming up, and lots of work still upcoming in this, the centenary year of the 1924 Paris Olympics, The Eric Liddell 100 set up an Olympic Year Appeal which you can DONATE to now. Your donations help us continue the momentum that we have already picked up this year, and give us the opportunity to further celebrate the man that is Eric Liddell.
