🌌 𝐈𝐀𝐔 𝐆𝐀 2024 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠! 🌌 I am thrilled to share that I will be attending (#online) The International Astronomical Union (IAU) General Assembly 2024, specifically participating in the sessions of the IAU CPS (Centre for the Protection of the Dark and Quiet Sky from Satellite Constellation Interference) on 7-8 August 2024. During these sessions, members of the IAU CPS Hubs will present the impressive results of our work over the past year. On 𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲, 7 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 2024, we will showcase significant results, including: 🔭 Andrew Williams: Development of Dark and Quiet Skies Standards in Government and Industry; 🔭 Marieta Valdivia Lefort: Protection of Dark and Quiet Skies: Recommendations for the Decision-Making Process; 🔭 Tamara Blagojević: The Effect of Behavioral Norms on Developing Dark and Quiet Sky Protection Frameworks in Emerging Spacefaring Nations; 🔭 I will be presenting the final results of our outstanding Policy Hub National Analysis group, which has been diligently analysing the policy and legal frameworks in various jurisdictions. Our aim has been to identify the current state of regulations in the field of D&QS and the gaps that need to be addressed. Together, we aim to raise awareness about the critical issue of satellite interference with dark and quiet skies. Our goal is to spark political and legal discussions that will pave the way for future regulatory changes to protect our celestial environment. For the first time in the history of the IAU, the #GeneralAssembly will be #accessible to everyone worldwide in real-time or through recordings. Don't miss this unique opportunity to join the sessions and be part of this important conversation. Learn more about accessibility and how to join here: https://lnkd.in/e7XwfU4H Looking forward to the event!🌠 Space Court Foundation #IAUGA2024 #DarkAndQuietSkies #Astronomy #SpacePolicy #SatelliteInterference #IAUCPS #lightpollution #satellites

Our paper "Detecting and Analysing Open Geodata Reconnaissance Targeting Critical Infrastructure" now published by IEEE in the #ICMCIS 2024 Proceedings! The Next ICMCIS conference will be held in Oeiras, Portugal on 13-14 May 2025. hope to see you there! Abstract: The war in Ukraine since 2014 has raised questions about sustainability of the traditionally strong Open Data policies in Europe. Information describing the critical infrastructure objects are usually not provided as Open Data through Geospatial APIs, but many datasets providing highly useful information for reconnaissance on the surroundings of these objects are. This paper describes a method for automatically detecting and analysing likely reconnaissance of the surroundings of known critical infrastructure objects based on analytics of Web API access log data. This paper was originally presented at the NATO Science and Technology Organization Symposium (ICMCIS) organized by the Information Systems Technology (IST) Panel, IST-205-RSY – the ICMCIS, held in Koblenz, Germany, 23-24 April 2024. System characterization of EO systems assures the scientific community that remotely sensed data are fit for scientific applications and the images are not just pretty pictures. Read more about our processes here: https://lnkd.in/emedTZgp
USGS System Characterization Assessments In 2000, the USGS and two other partner agencies founded an interagency partnership called the Joint Agency Commercial Imagery Evaluation (JACIE) to assess the data quality and to explore the potential utility of newly launched commercial high-resolution capabilities. The JACIE partnership has continued since then and has expanded its scope to include both commercial and civil remote sensing capabilities. The USGS system characterization reports are part of the USGS contribution to the JACIE partnership and include assessments of geometric (internal/external), radiometric, and spatial accuracy. Before the 2020 system characterization reports, all USGS system characterizations were shared through presentations at JACIE and not in a USGS Open-File Report format. These earlier presentations, as well as all other presentations given at JACIE, are available through the ECCOE Project website at https://lnkd.in/gaHhqrDE. The published USGS Open File Reports (OFRs) are available at https://lnkd.in/g7QSnkCe.
