Thank you to everyone who joined our webinar on the Ruta del Rio Grande Heritage Regeneration Project! During the discussion with Norma Barbacci, Dr. Nelly Robles García emphasized how this project will serve as a catalyst for academic inquiry, cultural heritage preservation and economic growth in the region. "The Tehuacán-Cuicatlán region is one of Southern Mexico's three cradles of civilization, yet it's largely understudied... The sites that we've chosen to restart the cultural studies of the region, the Ruta del Rio Grande, are crucial for understanding both the rich cultural and natural history of the area, which holds immense biodiversity and historical significance. The work now is to make a roadmap of what has to be done. There is a lot of work ahead of us. It's a task that seems almost impossible. But by determining some areas for intensive work, we aim to create a multiplier effect, ensuring that generations to come will continue to gain knowledge about this remarkable region." 💡 Missed the webinar or want a full recap? Today we honor and celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Join me in honoring and celebrating the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Indigenous peoples. Indigenous Peoples’ Day was first instituted in Berkeley, California, in 1992, to coincide with the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Columbus in the Americas. It serves as a day to recognize and respect the resilience and diversity of Indigenous communities. Fun Fact: Did you know that there are over 476 million Indigenous people living in 90 countries across the world? They speak an estimated 7,000 languages and have unique cultural practices that have been passed down through generations. Here are 5 ways to honor the day: 1. Learn about the land you occupy. 2. Listen, follow and support Indigenous voices. 3. See Native American movies and read literature published by Indigenous authors. 4. Patronize Native American and Indigenous brands and businesses. 5. Embrace learning the true history of Indigenous communities. Share your learning with friends, family, and colleagues.

How most people see it: ✅ Parades and festivities ✅ Family gatherings and BBQs ✅ Fireworks lighting up the night sky ✅ Patriotic displays of red, white, and blue ✅ Celebrating American freedom and history Here’s what July 4th really represents for us: ❌ The ongoing struggle for equality and justice ❌ The responsibility to uphold democratic values ❌ The opportunity to come together as a community ❌ The need to reflect on our nation's progress and challenges ❌ The bravery and sacrifice of those who fought for our freedom Let me break this to you: True celebration is acknowledging our past while working for a better future. Freedom is earned. Unity is essential. We grow as a nation when we embrace our history and strive for progress. So if you’re not feeling the celebration today, that’s okay. Patriotism is built through action, not just festivities. Reflection is the foundation. Community and shared values are the fuel. It’s more than just a holiday. Keep pushing for the ideals that July 4th stands for. Like in investing when creating generational wealth & legacy for decades.
