Looking forward to moderating this all-star panel on #climate and #environmental advocacy, featuring Katie Robinson, Jacqueline Patterson, Susan Hendershot, and Ariana Gonzalez and exploring this important topic together! The #BuildingTogether leadership experience from the Council on Foundations is timely, to say the least. In my own environmental advocacy before joining the foundation world, a regret is not fully appreciating the power of authentic, principled coalitions. Sure, I worked in coalition. But primarily with other organizations that closely shared the same policy goals. Our differences sometimes seemed large, but they were, in context, minute. On so many issues today, generating the influence to overcome powerful opponents requires more than working effectively with those with whom you already share affinity. It also demands figuring out how to expand the circle of affinity. Exploring common goals that exist. Forging, sometimes painfully, the actual relationships that can drive more influential and powerful responses to climate change, water pollution--and much more. This isn't just a "good" thing to do, its a strategic way to win.

Transformation happens at the speed of TRUST Some questions I have this day, Juneteenth: For colonial plantation "owners" who perpetuated slavery this side Turtle Island, what did they finally trust in order to transform their habits, their minds...what does it take to have trust enough to change our hearts? What is it that the black community is building as far as trust is concerned as we celebrate Juneteenth? How is trust being built within their own community? How is it extending within the greater American community? And what can we all learn from it? How does your heart desire to transform based on this trust that is being built.... I see a pattern with my leadership coaching clients. Those that experience the most transformation develop trust in TWO main areas after they entrust their transformation to my accompaniment. Those areas are: 1. Trusting THEMSELVES to commit and show up for themselves 2. Trusting the MOST HIGH and a grander orchestration of their life's detes Where can you cultivate and develop trust right now? 💓there is a seat at our table, for everyone

Annually, the Hispanic Collaborative and the African American Leadership Alliance of Milwaukee (AALAM) publish Well-Being Indexes that offer a comparative view of how Milwaukee’s Black and Brown communities are progressing compared to peer metros. The indexes show that while progress is being made, we need to pick up the pace. Cross-sector collaboration, meaning a true shared vision and responsibility, is required to address our issues at scale to create a stronger Milwaukee region. This learning series provides the time, spaciousness, peer support, and resources for Black people in leadership to grow their creativity and vision in order to reground in their purpose and increase their transformative impact on the organizations, communities, and movements they lead. Participants can expect to connect and build community with other Black leaders to create and refine their visions for the future, explore their purpose, and garner ancestral + daily self-care practices to support their personal sustainability. Participants will also unpack how oppression impacts their relationship to power and map out tangible next steps for materializing their visions of leadership. According to the study, 1 in 3 Gen Z (under 30 years old) Black and Latino educators anticipate leaving the profession, with 71% of those expecting to leave within 1-2 years. This echoes an IAU report that the district is projected to lose 100 Black educators per year, while fewer Black educators are entering the profession at LAUSD. :-( This research is so important to discuss, especially as we are thinking about the future of education.
