How can a team leader overcome their own bias near their own perception and be there for their teammate even when everything else is collapsing? Very important question to bridge the difference between soft empathy and tough empathy. We all have mission critical tasks that need to be done. It's necessary for us to be grounded in that. Now if you're working well and you fall on the foundations of the team, well then it's easy to have a conversation like OK, I know you're going through a tough time, right? We're here for you. Let me know when it really gets overwhelming. Please take a break for now. This is what we need to accomplish. I really need you on board because if I lose you, it's going to be terrible for us and we can't do without you. There are obvious reasons why we need you. You have this kind of skill capability and you are valued. That will be different. So being tough doesn't mean that you have to be harsh. You just need to be tough in almost any kind of situation. If it's a new situation where we've got to weather the storm, then the remaining four got to kind of like, OK, what do we need to accomplish from the last time I was able to handle something tough, bring that into my body. OK, let's go.
