The African continent is not bereft of challenges. Whether we are looking to solve the challenges of energy poverty, financial inclusion, the huge wealth gap, or even healthcare issues, there is dire need to focus on local contexts. This can be done by understanding the dynamics of the challenge through research, assessing the environment of opportunities and threats, and mapping out a detailed strategy to solve them at the scale required. We need to know what works for us, what is realistically possible, and what success means for us. It is only then that we can reimagine a continent of true possibilities. I came across an insightful article discussing the potential for Africa to build a more prosperous, just, and sustainable future by investing in science, technology, and innovation. This message was reiterated by African officials, delegates, and experts at the African Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) summit, which commenced yesterday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The STI Forum, a two-day event that takes place ahead of the African Regional Forum on Sustainable Development, is organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in collaboration with the African Union Commission and other partners. I had the honor of being a panelist at the Milken Institute Conference, where I shared the stage with some of Africa's most impactful economic transformers — Dan Keeler Maya Horgan Famodu Yolanda Mabuto 🇿🇦 Walter Pacheco Fred Swaniker. We discussed some keymacro-economic ingredients to establish a solid foundation for businesses: VC funding, workforce capacity building, efficient capital markets programs, reliable news, and technology training, and tools to adress multidimensional poverty (Gold). Because their currencies continue to depreciate in value — this is what we are trying to address at Ubuntu: we sell gold for as little as $0.10 across Africa as a store of value, and offer sovereigns an alternative to traditional World Bank debt financing. By unlocking wealth in Africa, we can drive a second diaspora of technology, innovation, finance. Tokenized real world assets offer a practical and effective use case for driving sustainable growth. By leveraging this innovative approach, we empower communities and multiply philanthropic giving throughout the continent and beyond.
