New research has revealed that producing 1kg of farmed salmon requires 4-5kg of wild fish. 😯 🐟 The industry likes to claim that they are the solution to feeding the world's growing population. However, this is far from the truth. Expansion of this industry relies on the extraction of wild fish out of the ocean, further depleting already struggling populations. This wild fish tends to be caught in the Global South in places like South-East Asia and West Africa meaning that they can no longer afford to buy fish as it is worth more as a source of fishmeal and fish oil for farmed fish. Read more in the link below 👇 #sustainablefoodsystems #aquaculture #salmonfarming #foodjustice

Agroforestry: Growing More than Maple 🍁 We celebrate not just syrup but the innovative practices that sustain our producers and the land they steward. Agroforestry—a land management approach combining agriculture and forestry—is key to their success. Our producers, like those at Tonoloway Farm and Laurel Fork Sapsuckers, go beyond maple syrup production. At Tonoloway Farm, former livestock pastures are transforming into food forests brimming with hybrid chestnuts, hazelnuts, heartnuts, pawpaws, and persimmons. This decades-long journey aims to restore balance to the land, nourish wildlife, and create a delicious bounty for generations to come. Meanwhile, Laurel Fork Sapsuckers blends syrup production with sustainable forest management, preserving Appalachian heritage while supporting the local ecosystem. Agroforestry isn’t just a practice—it’s a commitment to the future, combining conservation with innovation. 🌱🌰🍁 #Agroforestry #SustainableForestry #WVMaple #FutureGenerations #LiveLearnAppalachia
