Next Wednesday the Soldiering On Awards 2024 will take place celebrating the amazing organisations and people that work with and for the Armed Forces community. Collaboration is a key part of supporting Service personnel, ex-Service personnel and families. The Working Together award recognises some of those collaborative projects that are delivering positive change, and FiMT is delighted to sponsor the award again this year. Congratulations and good luck to the three Working Together finalists! Cornwall Council Midlands Op COURAGE Partnership Sunderland City Council Armed Forces Partnership

Military spouses in Washington state face significant challenges in employment, with studies showing a much higher unemployment rate than the general population. As of recent data: • The unemployment rate for military spouses toggles within 21-25%, which is about five times the national average for civilians. • Even among those employed, (federal/civilian), over a third are often underemployed, working in jobs below their experience or education level! • Frequent relocations and mission support contribute to difficulties with stable employment. Employment programs, support agencies, and flexible work options , like remote/hybrid work, are being promoted to help address these challenges. What other initiatives might contribute to an improved outcome?
SSMCP in partnership with the WDVA are working to improve the state of military spouse employment in our region. If you also are interested in supporting the workforce development of this highly-skilled and adaptable workforce, please join Olivia Burley and me at our Military Spouse Employment Symposium on November 21st! Military families with special needs have something to look forward to...a standardized EFMP program across branches and duty stations. That's all thanks to Exceptional Families of the Military and the hard work of their CEO, Austin Carrigg. Why is this important? Imagine being an EFMP Air Force family at an Army duty station. You are told that your child can't use local duty station support because you're not Army. This extra hoop creates confusion, frustration, and lack of services which have real-life and sometimes even life-threatening consequences for special needs family members. That's active-duty reality. Now think about transitioning out of active-duty service and how standardized processes could make this very important family needs issue so much simpler... Three cheers for programs and people that work so hard on our military community's behalf! If you missed the full conversation about EFMP families transitioning out of active-duty service you can find the replay on my LinkedIn page!
