16-year-old Yuliia escaped Ukraine with her mother and grandparents after their home was bombed by the Russian forces. Yuliia’s family spent several months living precariously, moving from country to country, before they were forced to return to Ukraine. This photo by Polly Braden gives us a peek into the sense of isolation that Yuliia felt during this turbulent period. We’re thrilled to share that it was longlisted for National Portrait Gallery’s Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize 2024 and will be on display at their exhibition, opening in November! Recent reports have highlighted the devastating impact of Russia’s invasion on Ukraine's UNESCO World Heritage sites and invaluable cultural landmarks. As of now, over 457 cultural sites—from historic museums to religious buildings—have suffered extensive damage or have been completely destroyed. Notably, cherished sites in Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Odesa have been targeted. One example is the tragic destruction of the Odesa Fine Arts Museum by missile strikes in November 2023. But this loss goes beyond physical structures; it’s a profound attack on Ukraine’s cultural identity, history, and heritage. Protecting and preserving these cultural treasures today is vital in order to safeguard the Ukrainian heritage for future generations. photo: @KyivIndependent

🇺🇦 We are helping to save Ukraine's cultural heritage from the war. 🇺🇦 We are a part of a unique initiative aimed at preserving cultural artifacts, as they have irreplaceable historical value. In collaboration with Ministerstvo kultury, Ukrainian Ministries of Culture, Národní knihovna České republiky, the National Museum of the Czech Republic, International Council of Museums (ICOM), and MND a.s., we support “ARK” project. 🚐 This project involves special mobile digitization units which are equipped with advanced technology. The devices monitor their environment autonomously, on top of that they can be controlled and tracked remotely. There will be a total of three “ARKS” and the first one is going into the field this year. 💛 💙 The "Extraordinary Aid" pillar of our organisation allowed us to provide an assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion. The theme of culture deeply resonates with our mission. It's wonderful to see that our partners have same mutual values and feelings! #saveukrainianculture #culturalheritagepreservation #extraordinaryaid #arkproject #digitalpreservation

Why do we need Museums for Peace? There are violent conflicts in every part of the world. How we talk about them can either promote further violence or foster peace. By highlighting the efforts of war resisters and peacemakers, these museums for peace inspire visitors to reject war and embrace peace, and are essential for creating cultures of peace worldwide. The world needs museums for peace. Every step toward peace matters. Let's take these steps together! #museum #peace #INMP #Non-violence #museumsforpeace

West’s attempts to turn UNGA into pro-Ukrainian show doomed to fail — Russian MFA "The UN General Assembly always encompasses a very broad agenda," Sergey Ryabkov stressed ST. PETERSBURG, September 20/ Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov believes that the West will fail to turn the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) into a pro-Ukrainian and anti-Russian show. "I would not say so (about the possibility of the West turning the UNGA high-level week into a pro-Ukrainian show - TASS). The UN General Assembly always encompasses a very broad agenda. This year too," Ryabkov told the media, answering a question from TASS on the sidelines of the 4th Eurasian Women's Forum. "Of course, the maniacal focus of our opponents on support for Ukraine will not reach anywhere. That's what the world majority is for: its mission is to explain to the minority, including by their actions, that this is not the only subject and far from the main one," Ryabkov pointed out. "There are many other things we will be dealing with there. There are security issues and issues of conflict resolution in other regions," he said. "There are bilateral relations with cooperation-minded countries. The Russian Minister [of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov] has a colossal program for meetings and many conferences and events regardless of Ukraine." "The General Assembly is off to a very energetic start. I am certain that it will proceed in this fashion, showing our adversaries that it [Ukrainian agenda] does not take center stage," Ryabkov said. "May they [the West] feel free to arrange anti-Russian performances on their domestic stages to entertain each other. In puppet theaters especially." #business #finance #financialservices

Read our first glowing review of our book!
First Glowing Review of Portraits of Ukraine A Nation at War! Published in The Cipher Brief on November 15, 2024 (https://lnkd.in/d2F_KgxJ...) by Ambassador Roman Popadiuk. The following is an excerpt from the review: “Seldom does a book appear that provides as comprehensive a treatment of its subject matter as does Portraits of Ukraine. The authors present an excellent overview of Ukraine in a highly readable volume complemented with photos and descriptions that serve to strengthen the overall narrative. The 280-page book is packed with 310, often dramatic, images. At a time when Ukraine is viewed solely through the prism of the horrors and tragedies of the Russian invasion, it is good to see a book that presents Ukraine’s history, its struggles, the resolve and determination of its people and the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the country. As such, it is an important contribution to fully understanding Ukraine’s current struggle for freedom and what motivates her people, a theme that runs throughout much of the book.”

Visit our online maritime museum https://lnkd.in/dX5TzbQk The Hellas Liberty Floating Museum, originally built in 1943 as the ARTHUR M. HUDDELL, was converted into a museum ship in 2010 and is now located in Piraeus. The Liberty ships played a crucial role in Greece's post-World War II maritime recovery. These sturdy cargo vessels, originally built in the United States during the war, were sold to Greek shipping companies at low prices. Greek shipowners, capitalising on this opportunity, revitalised their fleet, boosting Greece's position as a dominant force in global shipping. The Liberty ships thus became a symbol of Greek maritime resilience and economic resurgence in the mid-20th century. #libertyships #greekshippingmiracle #greekshipping #libertyships
