“Our Foyer has improved aesthetically but it is much more of a community. Our residents are proud to live at the Foyer and staff are proud to work there.” After its second year, staff members and young people from Foyers told us about their experiences of the Youth Power Fund – a programme that supports innovation and creativity in sharing power with young people. 🧑🤝🧑 Through working together on projects, supporting and leading each other, Youth Power Fund activities increased the opportunities for connections to be made between residents. 🏡 Young people reported meeting people in their building they didn’t really interact with before and often these new connections led to the formation of further projects. 🪴 Activities within the Foyer such as community meals, painting and gardening increased an overall sense of community both between young people and staff members. “Thanks to the guidance and funding, we've been able to bring together a community of young people who all want to act and make a change in the area that they live and work in,” said one young leader. Leadership. Focus. Results.
Empowering Change, One Build at a Time Last night, I had the privilege of attending the Women’s Build Kick-Off Event with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Palm Beach County. The energy, passion, and commitment to breaking barriers were truly inspiring! This incredible team co-chaired by Julie Peyton and Mary Allen Saunders is once again aiming to remain the largest fundraising Women’s Build in the nation—and I have no doubt they’ll crush it. Watching a community come together to create homes, hope, and brighter futures is nothing short of magical. If you’re looking for a way to make an impact, this is it. Together, we’re not just building houses, we’re building dreams. #HabitatForHumanity #WomensBuild #CommunityImpact #PalmBeaches #Empowerment Julia Murphy Kristen Bardin Tiffany M.

The Little BIG Foundation's recent research has unveiled some eye-opening insights into our neighbourhood dynamics when a Little BIG community is fostered. 🔍 In just 12 months, there has been an 18% increase in people in the Summer Hill Little BIG community confidently saying they know their neighbours by name. 💙 The study also revealed that 59% of individuals feel they have strong enough relationships with their neighbours to rely on them for assistance, such as bringing in groceries or lending a helping hand in times of need (compared to 48% nationally). This speaks volumes about the untapped potential for building a supportive and tight-knit community. Remember, those friendly hellos over the fence or a simple act of kindness all contribute to the fabric of a stronger, more resilient community. Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/gg6869b5 The Little BIG Foundation aims to reduce loneliness by inspiring communities to connect better. It was founded by and receives ongoing support from EG Funds. #CommunityConnections #NeighbourhoodBonding

WWhat does #energyaccess mean to you? For Mr A, it means his child can go to school, he can provide for his family, and grow his frozen fish business. Thanks to our #ApplianceFinance initiative, he now has a freezer to keep his stock fresh, attract more customers, and increase his income. This extra income ensures better meals for his family and education for his kids. A fridge or freezer might seem ordinary to you, but for Mr. A, it's a life-changer. #Electricity is not just lighting up his home; it’s lighting up his future and fostering community development. This is the power of #minigrids in rural areas - transforming lives, one household at a time. #SolarEnergy #SDG7 #RenewableEnergy #HavenhillSynergy #RuralEmpowerment

🙊 Passive Communities 🙊 So, we believe that communities don’t lack resources, they lack resourcefulness. We believe that between social value commitments, corporate volunteering and surplus corporate assets we can jump start any lethargic community. We believe the engine room for this to work is an active and engaged community. I think we underestimated what percentage of the community will provide moral support without actively getting involved. Our conversations with local anchor organisations, around establishing a tenants and residents association, led to advice that it was really hard to get anyone interested enough to get involved. (Especially if they see an official lanyard). Last week 30 members of the community braved the Scottish evening to attend the first meeting of the Lower Port Glasgow Tenants and Residents Association. 22 signed up, they have a Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. They will meet first Wednesday of the month at our hub. What about the passive community? 🙊 they may not be vocal and brave the Scottish night air. 🙈🙉 but from the feedback we receive they are well aware of what’s going on and supportive. Is the passive community a blessing or a curse? What value the lurkers? 🪧 having a street full of fully engaged community members marching in step sounds energising, but also sounds exhausting and costly in terms of time and budgets. So what value the lurkers? Is it normal to have the majority of the community passive? If so how do we ensure those “active” community members are truly representative? This is all starting to sound very political, all we wanted to do was make a difference. Time will tell. Reflections and learning from participating community foundations in UK Community Foundations' latest round of delivering the #iwillFund, in partnership with The National Lottery Community Fund and Department for Culture, Media and Sport: 💡 Make application processes creative, for example allowing videos or presentations. 💡 Check in with projects after interim monitoring to discuss any queries or concerns. 💡 Engage young people in decision making processes. Where possible, visit projects in person to understand the purpose of the project and observe any impact taking place. 💡 Support projects in how they can make their activities sustainable beyond the grant period. #iwillWeek #Philanthropy #YoungPeople 👇
It's beginning to look a lot like... #iwillWeek! In our 7th year of supporting young people in UK communities, thanks to the #iwillFund in partnership with The National Lottery Community Fund and Department for Culture, Media and Sport, we have published our new evaluation report, completed externally by inFocus. The report explores several key findings from an independent assessment of youth-led social action initiatives, revealing how projects successfully increased young people's confidence, skills and community engagement. It also identifies areas for improvement, including ensuring equitable access for marginalised groups and sustaining momentum after funding ends. Non-traditional funding options are necessary to spark community innovation and here’s why: Cohome's success in Morristown offers a compelling blueprint. They integrate residents with and without disabilities, fostering a diverse community environment. This model promotes social inclusion and breaks down traditional barriers in housing. By incorporating ground-floor commercial spaces, Cohome stimulates the local economy, providing employment opportunities for residents and increasing neighborhood engagement. Traditional lenders typically only lend for things they are familiar with, and this type of inclusive, community innovation made it a struggle for those kinds of lenders to support the model. But NJCC's support of strategic funding showcases how targeted, non-traditional investments can enhance both community living standards and economic vitality. Giving for Change programme activities focus on three core areas: 1. Community level: Giving for Change promotes community philanthropy through action research, peer learning, and small grants. It empowers communities to build local assets, agency, and trust, enabling them to organize resources for local priorities. 2. National level: Giving for Change aims to advocate for state and other stakeholders' support in integrating community philanthropy into national development strategies. This involves creating conducive environments for giving and strengthening multi-stakeholder networks and alliances. 3. Global level: Giving for Change actively participates in sector-wide discussions and debates in philanthropy and international development. Its goal is twofold: to influence these sectors and to foster more equitable partnerships. These partnerships aim to redistribute power and resources to grassroots levels, promoting the flourishing of community philanthropy.
