Since 2023, Tuberculosis (TB) has reclaimed its position as the world's deadliest infectious disease, surpassing Covid-19. The latest Global TB Report from the World Health Organization reveals that approximately 8.2 million people were newly diagnosed. This concerning development demands immediate action. With drug-resistant TB on the rise and remaining the leading cause of death among people living with HIV, it is crucial that we continue to invest in global health R&D. IYCMI, the World Health Organization 2024 Global Tuberculosis Report highlighted promising strides in the TB response:   ✅ Gap between estimated and reported cases narrowed to a record low of 2.7 million ✅TB deaths fell globally, including a slight reduction among people living with HIV (from 167,000 in 2022 to 161,000 in 2023) ✅ 8.2 million people were newly diagnosed in 2023, up from 7.5 million in 2022   More work remains to address this public health threat. With a yearly death toll of 1,3 million people, tuberculosis remains one of the top infectious killers in the world. It is also the leading cause of deaths among people with HIV. Every year, an estimated 3 million people fail to receive a correct diagnosis, leaving them to suffer from the disease, having 50% chances of dying, while infecting others. It is time to stop missing tuberculosis cases and stop failing to link every person with TB to the care continuum. 🔴 Some horrible data about Tuberculosis from WHO “global tuberculosis report 2024”. 🔴 About a quarter of the global population is estimated to have been infected with TB bacteria. About 5–10% of people infected with TB will eventually get symptoms and develop TB disease. 🔴 In 2023, TB returned to the top spot as the leading single infectious disease cause of death globally. The number of global TB deaths in 2023 was 1.25 million, which is nearly twice the number of deaths caused by HIV/AIDS, with 161,000 of these being patients with dual TB/HIV infections. 🔴 In 2023, The estimated number of new tuberculosis cases worldwide was 10.8 million (incidence rate of 134 per 100,000 people), which represents an increase from 10.7 million in 2022, 10.4 million in 2021, and 10.1 million in 2020. #TB #WHO #STOPTB #Tuberculosis #Shengting

Despite being treatable, #tuberculosis (TB) is affecting millions of people every year.
