🇪🇺 Introducing "Reimagining Policy: A Speculative Futures Journey", designed by the Futures Garden. A project from the European Commission Policy Lab that identifies weak signals and collaborates with research and design companies, to create artefacts that inspire policymakers with possible futures. During Future Days 2024, Erica Bol and Tanja Schindler took participants on a journey to explore 2050 future scenarios by the artefacts “Symbiotic” designed by Modem and “Inwards” by N O R M A L S 🦠 “Symbiotic” envisions the era of the Symbiocene, where human perception is extended to all life, encouraging us to explore, feel, and connect with sensory worlds beyond ourselves. ✨ “Inwards” challenges the idea of future selves, exploring who we are and what we want to create in a world of emerging technologies. The objective of the lab was to transcend the limits of human intelligence and delve into the rich web of interconnectedness within and beyond ourselves to ultimately raise the following questions: - What do we fear? - What do we aspire to? For the first time in nearly a decade, these priorities, shaped by insights from Chief Scientist Cathy Foley's listening tour, underscore the government’s commitment to building a stronger, more resilient nation. At InGeNA, we are particularly excited about the emphasis on: 🌟 Affordable, inclusive, and culturally appropriate preventive health systems. 🌟 Precision medicine therapies for advanced disease treatment. 🌟 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led initiatives that prioritize place-based, culturally appropriate approaches to improve health, wellbeing, and life expectancy. These priorities reflect a vision of a net zero future, thriving communities, and the elevation of Indigenous knowledge systems—integral to achieving equity and closing the gap. Yesterday, Minister for Industry and Science Ed Husic MP and Chief Scientist Dr Cathy Foley released Australia’s new National Science Statement, alongside five new cross-disciplinary priorities, positioning science as a fundamental pillar of the Government’s Future Made in Australia strategy. The new priorities, which will steer government, university and the private sector research efforts, are: transitioning to a net zero future; supporting healthy and thriving communities; elevating First Australians’ knowledge systems; protecting and restoring Australia’s environment; and building a secure and resilient nation. Minister Husic pointed that the Government "wants science to drive industry growth, creating stronger businesses and more secure, well-paid jobs for Australians." And Dr Cathy Foley highlighted that “Science is at the heart of almost every aspect of our lives, and is especially important as we tackle today’s challenges. “These priorities are a great starting point, and I hope we can come together as a science and research community with industry and government to bring them to life.” Find out more Australia's National Science and Research Priorities here: https://lnkd.in/gYDFx9DS

Nice summary of an essential difference between foresight and insight. Foresight expands the imagination of 'what might be' beyond insights that stay within the realm of the known or knowable. Has anyone brought foresight back into insights processes, to ask different questions of the existing knowledge base?
