-#commerciallitigators …. assemble I’ve posted about this before and got some sympathy and relatable anecdotes, but I’m asking again the serious question- how as users of the #civiljustice system can we drive improvement of its basic administration? Not decisions or judgecraft, but dealing with emails, general applications, cutting down delays. The latest CNBC data suggests the timing for general correspondence is 74days. 74! I’m sure lots of people work very hard in the systems that exist but that’s two and a half months to open and deal with an email. Our service level is a day. An aspirational goal would be a basic portal where regulated firms with a password/verification can self serve. We have some elements of that with CE filing in some instances. That but with more information and used more broadly. That shouldn’t be pie in the sky but I’d suspect there’s no funding and it’s never going to be a political vote winner. But short of that, is there something the profession can do: a levy, a percentage of court fees towards this, seconding staff (on non conflict terms and subject to an NDA) to clear backlog? Taking months to deal with email is NOT and SHOULD NOT be acceptable. Improving administration is to my mind in all practitioners interests - for their clients - but also for their own margin, particularly in the intermediate track with low fixed costs. What can we do? There must be something?

The federal government awards at least 23% of all federal contracting dollars to small businesses annually. To help small businesses compete for and win these contracts, it sets aside certain contracts for small businesses with specific characteristics such as woman- or veteran-owned. Entities who misrepresent their ownership structure to win set-aside contracts may be liable to the government under the False Claims Act.
