The transport issue in Greece is the “elephant in the room” that everyone sees but few talk about. If you live in Athens, you’ve experienced firsthand how traffic congestion is worsening day by day. In fact, transport emissions are among the top 3 contributors to Greece’s carbon footprint—a challenge we can no longer afford to ignore. 👇🏽

In Canada and the US, we say GHG emissions reductions are crucial to maintain a liveable planet, and then allow the fossil fuel industry to increase production and export. The hypocrisy is tiresome. Time to take responsibility for Scope 3 emissions.

NEW from the 2024 Global Carbon Budget Report “Total CO2 emissions are projected to be 41.6 billion tonnes in 2024, up from 40.6 billion tonnes last year.” (https://lnkd.in/dZbrUeVi) 🆙 That is a 2.46% increase. “Emission reduction requirements from now until 2030: For a 1.5° pathway 9% per year For a 2°C pathway 5.5% per year” —UNEP Emissions Gap Report 2024 (https://lnkd.in/d6bc9PF2) We need to *urgently* prepare as best we can for the consequences of this. #ClimateCrisis

𝗬𝗘𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗘𝗕𝗥𝗛𝗔𝗡 𝗞𝗜𝗥𝗢𝗦: #GreenEconomy Federal authorities are hustling to meet ambitious emission targets under the Climate-Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) strategy. The goal? Reduce emissions by 64pc by 2030 and a whopping 68.8pc to meet the climate accord signed in Paris. Yet, traditional practices still dominate many sectors, and the cement industry is a major culprit, contributing nearly half of CO2e emissions. Read more https://ow.ly/Pl2750SpX5S

Fossil fuels were given over $7 TRILLION in subsidies last year: That's $19.2 billion per day, $799 million per hour, $13.3 million every minute. The first step in addressing the problem is to stop funding it. #ActOnClimate #climate #energy

Continuing to fund fossil fuels exacerbates the climate crisis by supporting industries that are the primary cause of global warming. This perpetuates environmental degradation and hinders efforts towards sustainable energy solutions. Primitive fossil fuels lit our path out of the dark ages. We and all energy are nature. With 8 billion of us we must move on from combustion of ancient plants that nature including time converted to the oil and gas. Truth time: Support given by governments to fossil fuels are much larger than the generous energy transition support given more directly to citizens by e.g.,the DOE than the larger financial support given to fossil fuel lndustries. Reliance on oil keeps the world engaged in wars as a result of preventing energy independence. In conclusion more direct-nature energies like solar and wind are more profitable, provide better jobs, stabilize climate as fossil fuels use declines. AI will be a part of the story as amazing BS filtering of search makes it much easier to understand that the $7 trillion will be better spent on housing and other more intentional peace and prosperity uses. Human nature is not responsible for the USA exporting more oil, gas and munitions than any other country. #bettersoon #Evolutionboss

The greenhouse gas emissions in the Netherlands are projected to decrease with 44-52% in 2030, relative to 1990 levels, based on adopted and proposed policy. The probability that the Netherlands will reach the climate goal of 55% emission reduction in 1990 is therefore less than 5%. This annual outlook is published as required by the Dutch Climate Act and is regarded as one of the accountability instruments of Dutch climate and energy policy.

European greenhouse gas emissions decline but land stores weaken, According to recent research, Europe’s net greenhouse gas emissions have decreased by around 25% since the 1990s. While this is good news, the study also revealed a weakening in the capacity of land and vegetation to absorb and store atmospheric carbon., : According to recent research, Europe’s net greenhouse gas emissions have decreased by around 25% since the 1990s. According to the seventy-fourth edition of the "Statistical Review of World Energy" report, Canadian emissions have increased for a third consecutive year. This trend has placed Canada at the bottom of the G7 group since the pandemic began - a position that unfortunately mirrors the nation's pre-pandemic trajectory. While other G7 nations have successfully reduced their emissions over the past two years - many even surpassing their significant 2020 reductions- Canada's emissions have continued to rise. This may not come as a surprise, since Canada's emissions have been on a steady increase for a decade before the pandemic. Though a direct route to achieving the 2015 Paris Agreement targets was clearly marked, Canada has nonetheless squandered critical time. Even the sharp drop in emissions during the pandemic was not enough to pus the nation back on track. Now, after three more years of rising emissions, the gap between where Canada is and where they need to be has widened dramatically. With less than seven years remaining, emissions cuts required are now unprecedented in Canada. This is the harsh reality of delaying climate action: The longer we wait, the steeper the climb becomes.
