As we mark International Women's Day, we are reminded that for many women, sexual harassment, violence, and inequality are not just relics of the past. In recent years, women working in Barkerville have been subject to sexual harassment, stalking, unwarranted advances, gendered disrespect, and even assault. It's a stark reminder of how far we still have to go in creating safe environments for women. In Barkerville's early days, men outnumbered women by nearly 100 to 1. In these very male-dominated environments, women were often marginalized, their voices silenced, and their bodies objectified. They endured hardships and injustices, yet they persisted with unwavering resilience. As we recognize the struggles faced by women today, let's also honor the strength and courage of those who came before us. Let's stand together to create spaces where women can thrive without fear of harassment or violence. This International Women's Day, let's reaffirm our commitment to gender equality and justice for all.
