Indigenous knowledge refers to the unique set of understandings, skills, and philosophies developed by local communities through centuries of direct interaction with their environment. Applying these wisdom practices to the concept of SDG methodology can provide profound insights and practical approaches to sustainability. Traditional indigenous education is inherently connected with the natural world. Learning often takes place outdoors and cultivates a deep appreciation for Nature and encourages students to see themselves as part of a larger ecosystem. Usha Iyer ✍️ https://newsth.live/ZxgVYS

At yesterday's forum with colleagues to look at a new curriculum, I learnt something about SUSTAINABLE CURRICULUM, which I think might be useful to share. Sustainability in educational curriculum encompasses the integration of principles and practices that promote environmental stewardship, social equity, and economic viability. It involves designing curriculum content, teaching methods, and learning experiences that cultivate knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for individuals to contribute to a sustainable future. This includes topics such as environmental conservation, social justice, cultural diversity, global citizenship, and responsible consumption. A sustainable curriculum aims to empower students to understand the interconnectedness of social, economic, and environmental issues and to develop the critical thinking and problem-solving abilities needed to address complex challenges facing society. #curriculum #studentexperience #teachingandlearning #impact #sustainability

I have recently begun to complete this amazing online course GROWING ON COUNTRY created by Dominique Chen (Gamilaroi) and Zena Cumpston (Barkindji) and an exceptional team of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. I feel highly motivated to do this course because I am acutely aware that my Australian History subject at school lacked any significant or meaningful education regarding Australia's First nations people and Indigenous Culture. I was taught white colonial Australian history. From the small amount I was taught about Australian Aborigines as a teenager and even now, I'm still curious about people who seem to have lived harmoniously on this Country for 40,000 - 50,000 years, respectfully care-taking the unique flora & fauna and natural resources of this amazing land. I am interested in this course because it involves the opportunity to learn more about the natural environment. My employment background and current role involve sustainability, advocating for eco-friendly products & resources, nursery stock control, ecosystem management & conservation and eco education. I hope to fill a large gap in my knowledge about Indigenous Australians approach to caring for Country and their own personal relationship with the land. I'd like to learn what informs their decisions when it comes to gardening or regenerating natural areas. I'm interested also in Indigenous plants, Bush foods and how they have been used as medicine for many thousands of years. I believe it's important for me to engage with this course because it has been created by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and they represent the educators whom I wish to learn directly from. My personal belief is that their voices have been missing from important conversations & decisions about how to respectfully and successfully manage the needs of Country and natural resources. A significant reason for me to engage with this course is to learn to become a better ally. I am completely ignorant with regards to the detrimental effects of agriculture, white colonialism and capitalism on Australia's indigenous populations. I am aware of the term "Cultural Appropriation" but am naive as to how this negatively impacts Indigenous Culture. I am very keen to learn and personally grow from the social justice aspect of this course and therefore contribute in a meaningful, respectful and positive way to any future collaborative endeavors that I’m invited to participate in. *** Carla Rogers (I got 40 % on the ally quiz recently. Upon completion of this course, my knowledge will have vastly improved)! *** #growingoncountry #growing #gardening #permaculture #seeds #horticulture #native #indigenous #bushfoods #ally #socialjustice #nursery #plants #culture #indigenousaustralians #education #country

#Greening_Education #Greening_Education _Sudan Key principles of greening education. The following principles undergird the design and delivery of greening education in formal, non-formal and informal settings. Action-oriented ▶ Empowering: It supports learners’ empowerment, self-efficacy and agency by improving their analytical, communication, and other skills, and by supporting the acquisition of relevant knowledge and values for sustainable development and addressing climate change. ▶ Learner-centred: The pedagogy (e.g. critical, participatory, problem-oriented, learner-centred and experiential approaches) allows students to actively participate in learning processes, critically engage with personal experiences and their natural environment, and construct their own understanding. ▶ Career-related: It incorporates practices or ideas that can be applied to career choices and workplace practices. ▶ Transformative: It contributes to collective society-wide, local and global efforts to change human behaviour, systems and underlying causes and root drivers of climate change

We're excited to share more inspiring sustainability initiatives from schools and educators worldwide. A standout example comes from Government Secondary School in Yashikira, #Nigeria, where Emmanuel Omeiza Momoh shares: "As an alumnus of the Global Schools Program, I have actively woven sustainability themes into my English classes. A standout project involved using literature to raise awareness about pressing environmental issues. I selected texts that delve into climate change, waste management, and conservation, fostering critical discussions among students on these vital topics. We also launched a "Green Writing" competition, where students expressed their thoughts on sustainability through essays and poems. This initiative not only enhanced their language skills but also strengthened their grasp of global environmental challenges. Beyond the classroom, I’ve collaborated with other departments to organize eco-friendly activities, like tree planting and recycling drives. By connecting these efforts with our lessons, we’ve nurtured a sense of responsibility and environmental stewardship in our students, encouraging them to take meaningful action for a sustainable future." For more details about this project, visit https://ow.ly/Niov50U4FYO Thank you to all the educators, schools, and communities showing your commitment to sustainability.
