In the hospitality industry, where the guest experience is paramount, empowerment has a transformative effect. Hotel leaders play a crucial role in shaping the culture, dynamics, and performance of their teams. When it comes to addressing the issue of team formation of "mafias" within a hotel setting, leaders have a responsibility to identify, address, and prevent such behaviors to ensure a healthy and productive work environment. Fear Has No Place in Hospitality Management In the hospitality industry, creating memorable experiences for guests is paramount. A fundamental principle that must guide our management practices is simple: fear has no place in leadership. When leaders resort to fear as a motivational strategy, they undermine their team’s morale and compromise the core values of hospitality. The Detrimental Effects of Fear-Based Leadership Historically, many sectors, including hospitality, have experienced a culture of fear and intimidation. High-pressure environments often led managers to adopt authoritarian styles, believing that fear would drive performance. However, this approach is not only outdated but also harmful. Research shows that fear-based leadership results in high employee turnover, decreased job satisfaction, and a toxic work culture. In hospitality, where exceptional customer service is essential, a fearful workforce cannot deliver the warmth and attentiveness that guests expect.
