Changing minds involves being open to revising our own views. Can you recall the last time you changed your mind? Contradicting yourself is often a sign of growth and learning. We cannot expect others to be open to new ideas if we are unwilling to understand other perspectives as well. It's essential to strive for a deeper understanding of differing views. Rarely do these opposing views stem from malice; more often, they arise from fear, an inability to see alternatives, or misunderstandings about the other side's intentions. We could make greater strides in improving the criminal justice system by listening more and assuming positive intentions, rather than casting others as villains. Progress isn’t about agreeing on every solution; it's about transforming civil discourse from a battleground of winners and losers into a space for deep discussions, innovative thinking, and mutual respect.

For our Research Methods and Policy Analysis course this semester, my team and I are investigating Dalhousie University students’ perceptions of police legitimacy, trustworthiness, and efficacy, and whether these perceptions are shaped by social media usage. If you are (a) a current Dalhousie student AND (b) currently live in the Halifax Regional Municipality, please consider taking part in this survey and sharing with your peers! Here's the link to the survey: https://lnkd.in/enJxZztE
