Today kicks off the crucial five-year Floating Future research into large-scale floating construction Many cities situated in coastal areas are vulnerable to sea level rise and at the same time, they have a scarcity of space. Extreme weather events may give rise to high or low water levels in rivers and more space is consequently needed to accommodate big water flows or to store water for periods of drought. In the Netherlands and other deltas around the world the space for housing and industry is becoming limited due to these developments. What can floating construction contribute to the long-term habitability of the Netherlands? This urgent question is what a consortium led by MARIN (Maritime Research Institute Netherlands), consisting of five universities, three research institutes, three colleges and dozens of societal partners from the public sector, will tackle in the coming years. Space&Matter and Common City will lend their expertise in proven examples of floating architecture and research into floating urban planning. One day in the field, one day in the classroom, One day as a student, one day as a teacher, but always learning. One day in the studio, where design, creativity, and technology blend, And then... one day back in the field, one day at the office. This rhythmic dance of roles and settings is more than my routine; it's my poem of gratitude. 🍃 Each shift brings new perspectives, each day offers fresh insights. Whether I'm sharing knowledge with my students in Design Studio I or navigating the intricacies of architectural surveys, I find joy in every moment. This journey weaves together the many threads of my professional and personal growth, reminding me that every experience, every challenge, is a verse in the ongoing poem of life. Here's to the beauty of learning, teaching, and creating, no matter where we are or what hat we wear. May we all find such poetry in our daily lives. 🌟 #LifeAsAPoem #AlwaysLearning #GratefulHeart #DesignAndTechnology #ArchitecturalJourney #EducatorLife #CreativeProcess

A Confluence of Collaboration and Exploration At the heart of the Urban Digital Design Lab lies a vibrant learning ecosystem: the Seminar Metropol. X. Here, the realms of urban planning converge with the pulse of real-world dynamics, guided by the sage insights of industry veterans. The Essence: Theory Meets Practice Each seminar is a mosaic of learning, weaving together the theoretical foundations with the tangible realities of urban design. From the historic alleys of one metropolis to the blueprint of tomorrow’s urban districts, our journey is one of discovery, analysis, and innovation. Innovative Learning Through Remote Mapping Breaking the shackles of geography, our seminars embrace remote mapping to transport students into the urban landscapes of cities afar. This digital exploration, supported by a wealth of resources, unfolds the complexities of urban design, offering a holistic view of its challenges and opportunities. Collaboration: The Keystone of Learning Diversity fuels our collaborative spirit, drawing students from various backgrounds into a rich tapestry of perspectives. This synergy enhances the learning experience and weaves a tight-knit community of future urban innovators. In this case, the collaboration happened between Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Odessa State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture, funded by DAAD German Academic Exchange Service Outcomes That Make a Mark The fruits of our seminars are as varied as they are impactful. From detailed atlases that capture the essence of cities like Kyiv, Lviv, and Kharkiv to insightful analyses addressing urban dilemmas, our students' endeavors reflect our dedication to shaping the future of urban planning. #urbanplanning #urbaninnovation #onlineteaching

#MySDGfocusWithSSETS, #SSETS. Good day folks! I recently got nominated by my organization Nile University of Nigeria, to participate in a training program focused on Stimulating Sustainable Entrepreneurial Thinking in Scientist (#SSETS) and this is week 4 of the training. The training program is being sponsored by Lancaster University, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, British Council and National Universities Commission (NUC). I have been thinking lately, regarding how the #SSETS is helping me to align my top four (4) United Nations #SDGs with my research and professional expertise. Let me share some four (4) topmost #SDGs that align with my research and professional expertise with you and why so? 1. Quality Education is the No 4 #SDG which aim to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all. I believe as an academic, I have one of the most desired teaching and research expertise to contribute towards the realization of this goal. 2. Industry, innovation and infrastructure is the No 9 #SDG which aims to build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation. I have research interest in Green Architecture which surely will help promote this goal. 3. Sustainable Cities and Communities is the No 11 #SDG which aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. My research bias and expertise in Sustainable and Passive Architecture has got a lot to do with this goal. 4. Climate Action is the No 13 #SDG which aims to promote urgent action to combate climate change and its impacts. I am an environmental scientist and my study in the area of building climatology goes a long way to contribute to the realization of this goal. I am learning a lot about Housing and Contemporary Architecture from @musalawalsagada (Prof. Musa Lawal Sagada) of the Department of Architecture, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. My encounters with him in my "Recent Developments in Architecture" PhD class and from his book "The Essence of Contemporary Architecture in Nigeria is instructing me about the subject matter. I highly recommend the book for your insight. I have also had a connection with @OpeyemiAsaju who is my colleague from the Department of Architecture, Caleb University, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria and a fellow participant at #SSETS. Arc. Opeyemi Asaju's research interest in Traditional Building Materials in Respect to Indoor Environment Quality is a strong basis for research collaboration soon. Thanks as always Dr. Akanimo Odon and Dr Viola Akhigbe for inspiring me this much thus far, thus good! ActionAid Schneider Electric #MySDGfocusWithSSETS #SSETS
