Reflecting on #EquitySummit2024, I keep returning to "Love Unlocked" (video link below). Those of us in water feel a deep love for our communities, water, Earth. Yet when we talk about change, we talk about engineering, innovation, technical, policy solutions. Especially in the water utility / governance side of the sector. We rarely talk about love. It's there underlying, yes. But we rarely begin with love. We rarely reach to love first, then build. What would a plan, a policy, a piece of infrastructure look like if it was designed to love the all? In 2022 I worked with the US Water Alliance's Imagination Team of 35+ organizations to shape a path for net zero emissions and climate mitigation through water in the U.S. Those on that team know it was not an easy feat. It took us to unexpected places. Honestly, some faced backlash within their organizations. And we all certainly feared it in the sector. We wrangled each other for commitments. We fought to release the final report and shared vision. But we did. Perhaps the most critical piece we put out? A call to LEAD FROM THE HEART. 💧 This continues to be my revolution of the soul. I'm so grateful PolicyLink insists on love as the foundation for our work. So for all those #WaterNerd and #OneWater leaders that didn't attend this year's Equity Summit bc it's "not our lane," I'd say it is. Just imagine what is possible when we love through water? 💜 "The heart is often pushed to the side in day-to-day operations, especially when serious problems are on the table, and yet, it might just be what is needed now to guide us into a different future. 💚 We will embrace the deeper motivations of love and care for others and our planet and allow those motivations to drive innovation, restoration, collaboration, and investment. We will cultivate compassion for animals, plants, and other non-human life, recognizing their vulnerability to water’s environment and climate issues, as well as our own grief and losses that come with species and biodiversity loss and climate impacts on human communities. 💛 This shift will allow us to better acknowledge and work with the emotional dimensions of living in a time of climate crisis, seeking to find solutions and repair harms—both for us as water managers and for the communities we serve. We will seek empathy with those we serve. True empathy will help us share decision-making power with those directly impacted by the climate crisis and our work. ❤️ Love comes with risk. We will accept the greater risks of working from love and support one another in this endeavor. This may change the way we do things and bring risk to professional alliances, restructuring of budgets, and new regulatory challenges. We will learn from those innovators already accepting these risks and work to advance our shared vision for a more just, sustainable world." #ClimateAction Excerpt: https://lnkd.in/ef79GNvP
I mentioned that PolicyLink's #EquitySummit2024 was the best week of my professional life. The wisdom and love that was shared wasn’t just soul-stirring and challenging. It felt critical for the moment we’re in. I know I have continued to sit with so many of the brilliant insights, challenges, and invitations that were extended to all of us: whether it was about nurturing consciousness of all, or taking up our power as founders of a nation that works for all. We want to ensure we make sure that brilliance is shared, so we’ve started with a collection of reflections, photos, and videos that give you just a glimpse of what we heard. And I’m excited to share even more that is forthcoming. https://lnkd.in/gZ4tQfY9

President-elect Donald Trump has promised to disrupt the status quo in Washington, but what does that mean for healthcare? 🏥 Adam Beck, Senior VP at AHIP hopes the new administration will make the system more affordable without completely overhauling it. With 50% of Americans satisfied with employer-sponsored health plans, Beck believes the system is working well for many, and doesn't need drastic changes. Here’s what we might expect: - Support for Telehealth: Beck advocates for proposals expanding telehealth benefits. - Health Savings Accounts: A call for expanding HSAs to increase affordability. - Employer Deductions: He emphasizes keeping the tax deductions for employer-sponsored health plans as-is. However, there are concerns about the future of the group health tax exclusion after the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Tracy Watts, U.S. healthcare policy leader at Mercer, notes uncertainty around potential changes that could impact employers and employees alike. Learn more: https://hubs.ly/Q0302LJs0

🌟 Analyzing success is the only sure way to create more of it. 🌟 So many challenges and problems...but what's working in the fourth quarter of living today? When we look at transforming the human experience of aging, it's important to ask, "What's working well?" Let's challenge ourselves to shift our focus from solely addressing problems and challenges. This concept, known as "finding the bright spots," was beautifully articulated by Dan Heath in his book Switch. Heath reminds us that "human beings are hardwired to analyze problems, but not success. However, analyzing success is the only sure way to create more of it." By identifying and amplifying these bright spots, we can pave the way for more positive outcomes and innovative solutions in AgeTech and beyond.
