Today, as we gear up for another project, Diwali corporate orders (yes, you heard that right – bulk orders! 😄), I can't help but reflect on how far we've come. It’s October 10th, and while we may be a little behind on our calendar (oops! 😅), we’re right on time in delivering quality and passion. Established in 2015, we’ve been at this for 9 years now. No, we’re not the biggest leather manufacturer in the world or even in India, but here in Delhi, we take immense pride in being a good one. A brand that listens to every single customer – yes, every customer, no matter how small the request. I remember one day when a customer reached out, saying, “Hey Leather Warehouse, I need just one apron with my logo and my design I have a sketch image of it. Can you do it?” We could have easily said no—it’s tough work for our artisans to focus on a single piece—but we said YES. And this isn’t just a one-time thing. This is our philosophy. We pour our heart into every item, whether it’s a single apron or a large corporate order. Our Directors, Ms. Chhavi and Mr. Dikshit, personally oversee every product, capturing moments with each handcrafted piece. And this is how it’s been for the last 9 years. We’re not a massive company with big numbers, but we have something far more valuable—big smiles and happy customers. That’s what keeps us going. At The Leather Warehouse, customization and personalization are at the core of everything we do. Whether it’s one apron or bulk orders for corporate gifts, we craft each product with love and attention to detail. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our journey so far. Here’s to many more years of creating with care! 😊 #theleatherwarehouse #customization #personalization #leathergoods #corporategifting #madeinindia #startup #

#LatePost When the shop gives off Red vibes, it feels like Diwali has already arrived. This Diwali, I spent a couple of hours in the morning at our stationery store in Sewri, a locality along the eastern edge of South Mumbai. It took me down memory lane, back to when most of our vacation time was spent at the store. We had certain periods of the year with peak sales—for instance, when schools reopened around June, bringing a hike in demand for textbooks, notebooks & other stationery items. Similarly, during the Christmas season, decoration items would quickly sell out, while Diwali would see a rise in the sale of red cloth & red diaries for the Laxmi Poojan. Back in the day, around 15 to 18 years ago, we even sold firecrackers, with Diwali being the peak season. Apart from Diwali, we’d also see sales spike during cricket victories & other celebrations, but nothing matched Diwali. The highlight was the night before Diwali, when we would stay up all night assembling metal frames & arranging firecrackers on the staircase display. We’d enjoy Dal Baati, a Rajasthani delicacy, for dinner with our co-workers, while treating ourselves to ice cream at midnight as we built the shelf. There are countless memories associated with this store, not just as a consumer but as an owner. I used to walk a mile & a half to deliver goods to an industrial estate; roam the old lanes of wholesale market to buy stationery materials in bulk. Those were the good old days. Sitting in the store now, looking at all the fancy stationery items, I can see how much brands like Apsara & Camlin have evolved. They’ve realized the need for birthday gift options & now you can find Designer Kits—complete with a drawing book, crayons, sketch pens & more — all bundled up in thoughtful, colorful packaging that’s ready to gift. Now, in the digital age & the fast-paced startup world, product packaging often focuses solely on the product itself, without the imaginative, eye-catching designs that once drew customers in. It’s hard to say how much a founder today connects with each customer, whereas in our retail store, my dad knew the local customers so well that they went beyond just shopping, discussing their jobs & personal lives. As I look back, I realize how much the essence of business has changed. In a world that’s increasingly fast-paced, I believe the heart of any business still lies in the relationships we build with our customers, just like we need to have Community Manager roles to do this nowadays—roles that have been more commonly adopted in the Western business landscape, focusing on fostering connections & engagement in a meaningful way. Whether it’s through thoughtful packaging or simply remembering a customer’s name, these personal touches make all the difference. Here’s to celebrating the spirit of Diwali & the memories it brings, while also looking forward to the evolving startup landscape, where we can keep that human connection alive. #Festive #CommunityInsights

Celebrating #Diwali with Local Artisans: Zepto’s Commitment to Community This Diwali, Zepto is proud to announce a collaboration with over 500 skilled artisans to promote beautifully handcrafted earthen lamps, or diyas. This initiative underscores their dedication to strengthening the local economy and supporting traditional craftsmanship. 🔹 Spotlight on Community: They’re partnering with 50 families from the Prajapati community, renowned for their pottery skills. This collaboration is essential for their livelihoods, especially during festive seasons like Diwali. 🔹 Empowering Local Entrepreneurs: Aadit Palicha, CEO, Zepto, emphasized, “We genuinely admire Pradeep and others like him for crafting these beautiful diyas that illuminate Diwali in India.” 🔹 Navigating Challenges: While e-commerce platforms like Zepto offer many benefits, they acknowledge the criticisms regarding their impact on traditional local grocery stores, or kiranas. Union Minister Piyush Goyal has called for better integration of these stores into the digital landscape to balance growth and tradition. 🔹 Supporting Homegrown Products: In light of recent border tensions, there has been a growing movement among consumers to prioritize Indian-made goods over Chinese products. The appreciation for local craftsmanship is stronger than ever, reflecting a renewed pride in homegrown products. Let’s come together to celebrate the spirit of Diwali by supporting local artisans and promoting our rich cultural heritage! #Diwali #SupportLocal #Artisans #Ecommerce #Zepto #PrajapatiCommunity #Empowerment #Handcrafted #MadeInIndia

LinkedIn’s character limit limited my ability to include another aspect of #Diwali in an earlier post (https://lnkd.in/gmDTuEec). And Ashwin P rightly commented about it, so here goes… Just as there is a collective hangover that follows Diwali celebrations, the festival is also synonymous with conspicuous consumption and an ostentatious flaunting of wealth that raises India’s GDP significantly in a month. Malls morph into the El Dorado of bargain-hunters deluded into believing that discounts are genuine. Gold sales were down 15% over the last year – probably because the bears had deprived stock traders of quick money. And while car sales were either flat or marginally lower than 2023, The Times Of India reported (https://lnkd.in/gEbQ799i) that #ecommerce has clicked even more: over half the Diwali demand came in the last week of September, with goods worth a mindboggling Rs 55,000 crore ($6.5 bn) sold during Flipkart’s Big Billion Days and Amazon’s Great Indian Festival through October. Coincidentally, $6.5 bn is what OpenAI drummed up from additional investors in September. The problem, however, is that neither of the two online brands are known for their concern about wastage generated from packaging material in which everything from lipsticks to TV sets are dispatched. And cardboard isn’t the only trash that piles up: the relentless bursting of crackers leaves a trail of burnt paper on the streets while the chemicals turn to noxious gas. Gift boxes and wrapping paper are rarely recycled either. And, of course, fuel is burnt while SUVs (the only vehicles showing any growth for automakers) clog the roads. However, some dark clouds do have silver linings. As wardrobes are emptied to make way for new clothes, NGOs and the domestic help end up being deserving beneficiaries of the annual largesse of ladies and their loathe husbands. The Diwali bonus – looked forward to by staff employed at all levels – comes as a much-needed boost in household income. Craftsmen, tailors, jewellers, confectionery makers et al are kept gainfully employed in the months preceding Diwali, as are diya-makers and flower growers. Unsold inventories of both these are often dumped by the roadside the next day. Once-venerated idols and images of gods and goddesses are also discarded abruptly as unwanted clutter after the solemnities are done and dusted. Funnily enough, however, as millions of light bulbs are strung across buildings and every room remains lit all night – apparently to attract the goddess of wealth who, like Santa Claus, is expected to drop in, power cuts become non-existent for a few days. Miraculously, our electricity supply and distribution is perfect; until the day after when Gurgaon goes dark as usual. We are, evidently, a country on sale. And of waste. #onlyconnect

What can a good client vendor partner relationship teach you. This Diwali, we had the privilege of partnering with The Fern Hotels & Resorts for their corporate diwali gifting. I had met Suhail a few months back in Mumbai and amidst other things he mentioned his passion for everything sustainable. Upon returning to Doon, I promptly sent him a few options that could be used for Diwali. Mind you we still had some time for Diwali, chances of him completely forgetting our discussion were high. Two months before Diwali and I got a message from the marketing team mentioning the option I had sent. We got into a discussion and the agreement was reached. During the delivery, we faced our set of challenges. The notorious Diwali delays and some amount of damage. But thankfully during this entire period, the two teams at Fern and JiViSa Wellness kept speaking to each other and figuring out solutions one after the other. Net effect, Fern's customers received their Diwali bags in time. Now why did I feel like writing about this? Because, there was so much one could learn: 1. Suhail did not just say he believed in sustainable products, he meant it. The wooden box of three handcrafted soaps didn't look big (unlike what some people demand for gifting), but that didn't deter the team. He stuck to his conviction of gifting sustainable. 2. Despite some genuine errors made by my team, Deepak and his marketing team continued to work closely with us. The objective was a smooth delivery, not blaming or pulling anyone down. 3. I had earlier written a post about how if organisations start planning in time, it gives everyone so much time for course correction. And that's exactly what we saw this time. With the project closing in time, we were able to overcome the delays and damage with prompt replacements, only because we had the luxury of time. And this came from the organisation's foresight. 4. Finally something I learnt way back from my then client Graeme Macleod, our vendors are our partners, only if you understand that and give them that space, there's so much value they can add. I felt Fern allowing us that space, allowed us to own up so much more. Here's to building great relations, while building businesses.
