Happy to share our new five year strategy document! Every effort has been made to develop a strategy that is ambitious, achievable and directly reflective of what the Liberties community feel is required for the area to progress during the years 2024 - 2028. To this end two separate questionnaires were developed and distributed to community members and partner organisations posing a series of questions designed to understand sentiment about local need and opportunity. The answers from 98 responses were collated into a series of documents which along with available statistics, policy and academic papers informed two joint organisation meetings facilitated by Caroline McCamley in 2023. The output of these sessions were shared and pre-approved by Robert Emmet CDP & SICCDA boards before being formally adopted by the board of The Liberties Community Project at the organisations first AGM in October 2024. The Liberties Community Project believe that partnerships and collaboration are essential to achieving our mission and we actively seek to work with other organisations, government agencies and community groups to create positive change- please contact info@thelibertiescommunityproject.ie to get involved in pursuing our vision to create a resilient and vibrant community in the heart of Dublin.

On Sept. 26 the City of Boulder piloted the first of its kind Community and Council Forum. This was an official city council meeting restructured to include a mixture of community outreach to affected residents, sortition, and break out conversations between elected officials and community members. The pilot comes out of recommendations our center provided to the city to engage residents in more productive ways during official public hearing/meetings. Interestingly, there was no dais and no microphone used for two-minute public comment. Instead, council chambers was reconfigured for officials and the public to sit together around a roundtable to shift the power dynamic, learn about the topic of economic development, then break out into small group deliberations. A significant part of the exercise was to implement active listening and two-way dialogue. This is but one innovation among others Boulder is doing, as they're simultaneously working toward a citizens' assembly for their comprehensive/master plan. I'll have more to share on this process soon, including its design and public evaluations. Here's the recording of the plenary: https://lnkd.in/gqAW6b4m

‘Deliberative Engagement’ is a phrase that has become popular in recent years – however, there is some confusion about what it means: both in practice and in how it affects how local governments engage with their communities. In this week's briefing, Helen Jennings, unpacks this evolving concept. She explains how it differs from deliberative democracy and provides practical insights on how local governments can (continue to) deliver meaningful community engagement. If you're looking to deepen your understanding and enhance your engagement practices, this briefing is for you. The Game Changer for Community Collaboration Trust is the essential foundation for effective collaboration between government stakeholders and community-based organizations (CBOs). Rapidly establishing trust can significantly enhance the capacity to address community needs, especially those that often fall through the cracks. Why it matters: As public service evolves, the speed at which trust is built between government bodies and CBOs determines the success of initiatives aimed at bridging community gaps. This impacts everything from emergency preparedness to long-term social programs. By the numbers: 72% of community members report a lack of trust in traditional governmental structures. 85% of successful community initiatives cite strong initial trust-building as a key factor. The implications are clear: without trust, efforts to address critical community issues may falter. Governments and CBOs must prioritize trust-building strategies to ensure effective collaboration and meaningful impact. What are some ways you've seen trust successfully built between government and community organizations? #disasterpreparedness #emergencymanagement #emergencypreparedness
