The Tallaght District Heating Scheme (TDHS) is the first large-scale district heating network of its kind in Ireland. It operates under Heat Works, Ireland’s first not-for-profit energy utility, fully owned by South Dublin County Council. The scheme helps to significantly reduce emissions in the area by almost 1,500 tonnes of CO2/year, establishing Tallaght as a leader in local energy action. The scheme delivers a high level of renewable innovation as during normal operation, waste heat from the nearby AWS data centre works to supply 100% of the heat back into the network. Together, these projects will generate 310,000 MWh annually, covering 65% of the Group's total energy consumption by 2027. This means 160% of the electricity needed for our Bulgarian operations will come from these renewable sources.   🔋 Why Clean Energy Matters Clean energy isn’t just about reducing carbon emissions—it’s about creating healthier communities and paving the way for a sustainable economy. From wind and solar to groundbreaking advancements in storage and grid technology, clean energy solutions are proving to be the backbone of a greener world.   This year let’s accelerate the transition with initial investment of €120 million in Bulgaria and ensure clean energy becomes accessible to all. Even as we drive the shift towards a renewable future, our Stanwell and Tarong power stations continue to play a vital role in keeping the lights on – especially during these scorching summer months when air conditioners are running at full capacity. While we work hard to expand our renewable energy and storage portfolio, these existing power stations are crucial for reliably generating electricity, stabilising prices, and providing essential system strength, inertia, and firming. In 2023/24, our Stanwell and Tarong stations delivered market-leading availability of 93% and an impressive reliability factor of 99%. To maintain this high performance, we invested $175.1 million in sustaining capital last financial year, ensuring our stations continue to support Queensland’s energy needs as we transition to a cleaner, greener future.
