Child led play is where the child takes the lead and the adult follows. Following a child’s initiatives in social play settings benefits their development in so many ways such as enhancing imagination, communication, cooperation, conflict resolution, creativity, and self worth. In this short video the children wanted to chase the adult in their version of tag! It was joyful for all involved. The adult’s input is only needed for setting boundaries around safety. I feel like grandparents get this concept better than any demographic. Most grandparents allow young children to lead. “What do you want to do? How are we going to do that?
