Well done Bernard . Giving back is essential.
A proud day for Irish rugby as our boys take on the mighty #AllBlacks this evening. And a proud day for GOAL, when we welcome Bernard Jackman, former Irish international and ever popular rugby pundit, and analyst, as our newest ambassador. Here three mini-GOALies (Tom, Summer and Conall) discuss the big Ire. versus NZ battle with Bernard and get a few interesting insights into who will win, and Bernard reminds us that we can all make a positive impact in the world which goes well beyond the final whistle. Welcome Bernard to the GOAL pitch. We know that you will do us proud. Kick-off is 8.10pm. #COYBIG #ThatsWhatGOALiesDo

A very disappointing day for rugby in Australia. It seems history is set to repeat itself with another Australian Super Rugby Team ceasing to exist. It is naive to think reducing the professional contracting opportunities by 20% will increase depth and competition. The NRL and AFL have 17 and 18 teams respectively, Rugby will have 4. Which code do you think juniors will steer towards? A 1/4 chance or a 1/17 or 1/18, less career opportunities will equal less depth as potential players seek certainty and better odds of making it professional. How could a governing body be ignorant to a franchise operating insolvent for multiple years? I question whether this failure of corporate governance raises more concerns for the future of professional rugby in Australia.
STATEMENT | RUGBY VICTORIA BOARD OF DIRECTORS Rugby Australia has made the heartbreaking decision to discontinue the Melbourne Rebels beyond the 2024 Super Rugby season. This decision has a significant impact on staff, families, players, fans, volunteers and elite pathways in Victoria. The hard work and dedication that has gone into the Melbourne Rebels behind the scenes over the past 14 years cannot be overstated and we extend our deepest sympathies to all during this difficult time. We must remember that the game of Rugby is built from the grassroots. It is about the people who play it, who administer it, who coach it and those who support it. Let's stand together now, more than ever, to support Victorian Rugby Union. #StrongerBindsVictoria #VicRugby #VicProud

90% of people who completed our survey said that their business held fantasy sport competitions for men's sport but not for the women. Let's change that. The Guinness Women's Six Nations kicks-off THIS weekend and we've been thinking... what's the best way to get people involved and immersed with the tournament this year? Our answer... we've set up a Six Nations Fantasy Rugby League powered by Energia so YOU can get more invested, learn about the players and invite your friends, family and colleagues to get invovled too! Not to mention there will be weekly prizes to be won which include match tickets and much more! We do it for men's sport... so why not the women's too? Interestingly enough, we surveyed our audience around the concept of Fantasy Leagues and it was highlighted that the majority of businesses tend to participate in the men's versions of these but very few do the same for the women. In fact - Get involved here: https://lnkd.in/eUH2psRj
Here we go 👊🏼 A new look Irish Rugby team will kick-off their Women’s Six Nations campaign next weekend against France, led by new co-captains Edel McMahon and Sam Monaghan. We’ve set up a new W6N Fantasy Rugby League with Energia to get YOU, your friends, family and colleagues involved this year. We see a lot of businesses set these up for the men’s game but never consider it for the women’s - so now is your chance to make that small change which had a BIG impact. Don’t be #HalfAFan Learn more about the players and pick your team for a chance to win some amazing prizes EVERY WEEK. Follow the link in the comments to get invovled! #SixNations #WomensSixNations #ThinkAboutThePossibilities

Who will get the Lions' share?... (See also: https://lnkd.in/gFZ32_Tj ) "The British & Irish Lions has today announced details of a new player agreement which will see players selected for the 2025 Tour to Australia benefit from a PROFIT SHARE MODEL for the 1st time. The agreement will see the creation of a new partnership model whereby a PORTION OF THE DISTRIBUTABLE POST-TOUR PROFITS will be made available for sharing between players..." However this PORTION may be much less than 100%. And DISTRIBUTABLE POST-TOUR PROFITS may be much less than Total Profits. And Total Profits may be much less than Total Revenue Generated from the tour. So ideally, to maximize remuneration for their work input, players would negotiate additional payments as proportions (say of total series match minutes played) of Total Revenue Generated from future tours. However, the new current agreement does suggest a significant step improvement in player bargaining power, and move to greater incentivization and potentially performance of Lions players....(Wallabies watch out...) https://lnkd.in/gnvq_4bJ
We are pleased to announce a new player agreement, which will see players selected for the 2025 Tour to Australia benefit from a profit-share model for the first time. Find out more about the agreement here: https://lnkd.in/er-HA_R5 Rugby Players Ireland

Legends of English Rugby are bowing out tonight when Northampton Saints host Saracens in the Premiership semi-final. It’s going to be au revoir for either Courtney Lawes and Lewis Ludlam from Northampton or Owen Farrell, Mako Vunipola and Billy Vunipola. The winners will only have 1 more week before they are across the channel too. Whichever side of the fence you sit on it's going to be an emotional evening. The bigger picture is that these 5 players are going to be lost to the English Club Game. They have a lot still to offer, they don't want to go but their clubs can't afford them. This is the real sadness. From what's been reported all 5 would rather stay here and see their career out over the next number of years. Questions have to be asked of the RFU and Premiership Rugby. How has the Premiership been overtaken by France and Japan as the richest places in the world to play rugby? Why can't we afford to pay our players more than France and Japan?

Let’s Get Behind School Rugby Throughout the course of this week, the National Schools’ Rugby Sevens will see over 14,000 players in over 1000 teams compete in a variety of competitions. Some are here to win it, some aiming to progress further than before and others participating for the experience. Whilst Rugby is addressing legitimate challenges, it is also a game that continues to capture the imagination of large numbers. The era of compulsory rugby is long gone, and these children are participating because they love the game. It never was a sport for everyone, but continues to be one which enriches the lives of many, providing lifelong memories and friendships. There is something captivatingly attractive about Rugby, though its leaders are curiously reluctant to articulate its benefits more widely. Those of us who have been positively impacted by the game have to be more vocal in our support: the modern game is a niche experience, with unique benefits and challenges. But, those who love it, love it as much as they ever did. Let’s get behind school Rugby - and lifelong friendships

Australian Rugby’s “From Green To Gold” strategy towards 2029 - formed in collaboration with stakeholders across the game including member unions, Super Rugby clubs and the Rugby Union Players’ Association - features three key pillars: performance excellence, participation growth and promotion effectiveness. Performance excellence: To consistently build winning teams in Gold, connecting and inspiring Australians and our rugby community. Participation growth: To increase support for clubs, schools, coaches and match officials to enable growth in participation and strengthen the rugby community. Promotion effectiveness: To leverage major events and engage bigger audiences across platforms increasing visibility, support and interest in rugby and driving commercial value.
