Join Rinku Sen, executive director at Narrative Initiative, and Minal Hajratwala, founder of Unicorn Authors Club, for an interactive panel discussion on the importance of books as tools for organizing. The panelists will discuss how they see their work as writers and engaging with organizers/writers to help understand the need for narrative shifts. The discussion will explore how and what books have provided lessons on organizing by blending historical analysis with personal stories to center diaspora stories. Sen and Hajratwala will also share how their respective experiences led to a partnership on publishing interventions programming. This session will include writing prompts to engage attendees on how they can frame their writing/work into a resource for narrative and social change. 📍 Facing Race Conference in St. Louis, Missouri 📅 November 21st ⏱️ 11:00am to 12:30pm CST Check out Race Forward for more conference info!

"Art is a form of knowledge. It's a practice of investigation (science, journalism, observation) married to a human capacity and drive towards play" - Helen Molesworth, 'Open Questions: Thirty Years of Writing about Art'. Attention, experimentation, curiosity, exploration and commitment - these are some of the words that come to mind from this definition. I just started reading the book and even the title is enough to get you thinking. #art #curiosity #thinking #play #humanity

For me, writing is exploring. I choose a topic. Then I explore it by writing about it - and I write by exploring it. So I “digest” it a dozen times. I dig deeper and deeper. It’s like discussing the topic with myself. The structure is born in this process. It takes at least a week, often two; or longer. It’s a very fulfilling process that lets me grow. Time is an ingredient.

N for Narrative / Narratiivi • A piece from a collection of 29 illustrations for News Media Finland´s ABC book of Media Literacy. For this piece, I aimed to incorporate the stages of storytelling into the letter itself. Drawing inspiration from Freytag’s Pyramid, I organized the narrative progression as follows: Exposition in the bottom left corner, flowing into Rising Action, building to the Climax, easing into Falling Action, concluding with the Resolution, and culminating in the Denouement.
