Narrative research is a vital tool for any organization, foundation, coalition, or network working with frontline communities. It helps uncover what is being said, how it's said, and why these narratives matter to individuals and communities. Zakyree Wallace, M.A. and Francesca Koe walk through the techniques that form the backbone of an informed narrative strategy. Misinformation can spread fast in a globalized world. Stories that misinform the public can sometimes be more powerful than facts. However, as time passes, facts and evidence will become too difficult to ignore. Do you agree? #ScienceFact #ScienceEvidence #ScientificEvidence #FactBasedAction

An energizing finding? Giving a talk on (re)building trust in science in North Carolina’s Research Triangle region can draw a highly engaged crowd of people who are passionate about doing just that across a variety of sectors. Last week, I had the honor of speaking at the Chatham Community Library and was blown away by the audience’s enthusiasm, insights, and thoughtful questions. I made a lot of exciting connections with people working locally on health and science communication, too. We discussed the importance of helping our own audiences understand science not as yet another authority/institution we can take or leave as we choose, but as the most powerful (though not infallible!) tool of discernment humans have developed to untangle how the world functions. To do this, we need to understand how science derives its powers of discernment, and make sure that we always articulate science in a way that accurately and meaningfully reflects this process. Science and media literacy help us play offense and defense against the information crisis swirling around us. I look forward to many more conversations to come with my new connections on how we can assist others in building these fundamental skills.
