Register today for the "AI is Revolutionizing Public Safety, Criminal Justice, and Security - Are We Ready?" webinar on August 28, 2024 at 12:30PM for a discussion on the transformative impact of #artificialintelligence (AI) on public safety, criminal justice, and security. AI is changing how crimes are committed, investigated, and prevented, offering advanced tools for law enforcement but also presenting new challenges. Current efforts to integrate AI across these sectors lack a unified approach, despite the pressing need to address recruitment issues, rising crime rates, and the ethical use of AI. To address these challenges and ensure responsible use of AI, two blue-ribbon panels of experts from law enforcement, criminal justice, and private security will present, including NSA’s Board Treasurer, Sheriff Michael Mastronardy, Ocean County, New Jersey. Two of my favourite things: human rights and technology in one blog. If you're wondering about the ethical challenges posed by AI, especially for marginalised groups look no further. The bloc is discussing critical aspects of AI's role in over-policing, the use of big data for human rights protection and the need for regulatory oversight. I believe social performance practitioners have a lot to add to this discussion - so make your voice heard whenever you have the chance. https://lnkd.in/eQSeRFRe

Check out this new piece that I co-authored with my colleague Jesse Rothman that examines how we can harness the many potential benefits of A.I. in criminal justice while protecting liberty and privacy!
A perspective from CCJ Chief Policy Counsel Marc Levin and Senior Fellow Jesse Rothman in Governing magazine on the complicated implications of using artificial intelligence in criminal justice: https://lnkd.in/gV_eUrxm With the use of AI tools in criminal justice already on the rise, CCJ’s artificial intelligence initiative convened experts and stakeholders in the field to discuss the promise and peril of the technology for policing, courts, corrections, and other sectors. Here's another example of the hidden structure of soci-cultural racism in the US mass media industry. We constantly hear the news media, their pundits, and then the echo chamber of commenters regarding the need to do something about the US broken immigration system. Inevitably, and always, the examples highlight the US's Southern border as the sight of disgraceful and dangerous violations. But, by now, any intelligent citizen has come to realize that race and hate lie deep in the "normal" psyche of social role players and job holders that deal with the formation of public opinion in the US. The AI is turning out to be a source of information that is compiled by machines whose structures of activity, its algorithms, seem to hold way less evidence of racism in the mechanisms of information processing.

Join Alex Murray, Chief Constable and CI Lewis Lincoln-Gordon, Chief of Staff for West Mercia Police at the upcoming Police Strategy Forum where they discuss understanding the interplay of AI, data science, and machine learning, exploring how these concepts are often hard to understand for ‘digital immigrants’ who struggle to adapt to the digital age. Alex and Lewis explain how often rather than embracing change, we tend to focus on what we can understand – things like ethics or strategy – but in the meantime we miss out on the practical benefits that using data more effectively can deliver. The session looks to dissect the importance of balancing these factors with the practical applications of data science in policing. Do you think you have something to add to the discussion? The Police Strategy Forum will take place on the 17th, 18th and 19th of June 2024 at De Vere Cotswold Water Park Hotel in Gloucestershire where we are bringing together over 120 chief constables, chief executives and other senior leaders from UK & European law enforcement. If you are a solution provider working across police industry and can provide technological support to our group of senior leaders, or if you are a delegate looking to improve your organisation’s digital and operational capabilities then enquire here: https://bit.ly/3iIgThs #PoliceSF #police #Machinelearning #AI

The Problem of Deepfakes and AI&Generated Evidence: Is it time to revise the rules of evidence? – Part TwoThe article - Part Two - discusses proposed modifications to Rule 901(b) concerning the authentication of AI-generated evidence. Judge Grimm and Professor Grossman suggest replacing “accurate” with “valid” and “reliable” to clarify the criteria for admissible evidence, as accuracy alone does n
