The Native Lab’s Post

📢 Connecting the dots... 📢 In 2020, CMASLab-ETH Zurich, in collaboration with 9T Labs, developed and tested a groundbreaking morphing drone that uses only morphing control surfaces for roll, pitch, and yaw control! All structural parts were made using 9T Labs' advanced 3D printing system, combining plastics and continuous carbon fiber composites. 🤩 This research demonstrated that #carbon #fiber composite additive manufacturing enables cost-effective production of highly-loaded structures with tailored fiber placement, fully leveraging the material’s anisotropy and strength. 🪽 Morphing mechanisms, which use elastic properties to achieve shape changes, improve aerospace performance but are often costly to produce with conventional methods. By combining additive manufacturing with morphing mechanisms, ETH Zurich created the first fully 3D-printed composite drone, successfully flight-tested to showcase these exciting technologies! 😍 #TheNativeLab #SpreadingKnowledge #ConnectingTheDots #Composites #Innovation #EngineeringMarvels #ManagingComposites #MorphingStructures #AerospaceInnovation
