🚢 The Future of Maritime Cadet Training: Bridging Tradition with Innovation 🌊 As the maritime industry evolves, so too must the training of our cadets. One of the most critical skills we teach remains passage planning—the cornerstone of safe navigation. But today’s cadets are not just learning with paper charts and compasses, they’re need to master digital tools such as ePublications, digital passage planning tools and ADPs that enhance their decision-making and situational awareness and better prepare them for using those tools onboard as an officers. ⚓️ Simulators play a key role in this transformation. These highly sophisticated systems immerse cadets in real-world scenarios without leaving the classroom, offering a risk-free environment to practice everything from port operations to emergency situations. Simulators prepare future officers to make critical decisions under pressure, sharpening their skills before they even step on a bridge. It can be either supervised by senior officer and trainer or to let them do the mistake on the simulation and point out and teach them when debriefing the exercise. During the HB phase, students are encouraged to perform missions in pairs, with one managing the first stage of flight and the other handling the return. It was great attending another series of plenary meetings this past week with fellow RTCA SC-147 members in Washington, DC to continue ACAS Xr MOPS and Cooperative Surveillance MOPS creation efforts and to discuss a potential revision to ACAS Xu MOPS! For those outside the aviation industry: RTCA works with the FAA to develop comprehensive, industry-vetted, and endorsed standards that can be used as means of compliance with FAA regulations. So what does this mean for my company (ACSS) and me? I have the opportunity to influence the future of aviation technology with other industry professionals and ensure my company's and customers' perspectives are represented! SC-147 usually meets online weekly/bi-weekly for roughly an hour to discuss smaller action items, but our in-person, day-long plenary meetings allow sufficient time to facilitate some of the most collaborative discussions regarding system safety (e.g., through software stress testing discussions) and performance (e.g., through low-speed/hovering maneuver discussions).
